Can I have a color tag for Forest Green please? :-)
1. Old Oak tree
Sarah's favorite spot in the forest is the lake. There is a waterfall. And the grass field around it is pure and green. She always comes here when she feels upset or lonely or angry. Just to sit here. Her back against an oak tree, hidden in the shadows. It calms her mind.
And sometimes, when she feels silly and happy, she climbs the tree. It's an old one. And it is huge. It offers her a perfect view over the village.
2. Squirrel
Most people in the village wonder why she always wanders through the forest. Surely she must be lonely out there. But Sarah just smiles when her friends confront her with their questions. Little do they know that she is never lonely. She sings with the birds, she runs with the deer, she swims with the otters and she climbs trees with the squirrels. Sarah is happy in the forest. More alive. And free.
15. Survival
All animals have a survival instinct. And they act on it. Humans have it as well. But they often deny it. Don't trust it. Think they know better.
Sarah never ignores it. She trust her feelings. Sometimes trusts it more than her eyes. But when she sees the trapped wolf - growling and scared - for the first time, she does not listen to her instinct that tells her to turn and run away...
3. Wolf
She has one faithful companion in the forest. Ever since she saved him a couple of years ago. He always follows her. From the moment she sets one foot in the forest 'till the moment she leaves again.
The wolf never gets close though, but he is always near. Ready to protect her. Sarah feels his presence. Always. Even if she doesn't see him. And she is grateful for it.
7. Path
No one but her comes to the forest. There is no visible path and most people are afraid to get lost.
She can find her way through all the trees thought. Blindly if she has to. Because there is a path. One she found. One no else sees. But it is there. You just have to listen to the wind and the animals and the trees. Open your mind and let the spirits of the forest guide you.
Sarah never once got lost.
8. Underbrush
After having saved the wolf's life, Sarah has only seen him once. The night of the saving itself. Standing between the trees, while she was walking back home. His eyes fixed on her back. It might have scared the hell out of everyone else. It just made her feel safe.
Ever since that day, when she is lying on the grass, or sitting against her favorite tree, she often sees his eyes - keeping watch - through the underbrush.
9. Moss
She shivers when she takes off her shoes. Cold feet, the wind is blowing from the north. But it doesn't matter. Sarah loves the feeling of the soft moss under her bare feet.
10. Bark
She knows the bark of the old oak has healing powers. Or so the tales say. Her friends don't believe in it. But she does. Ever since that terrible wound on Simon's leg stopped bleeding after she put a piece of the bark against it, she believes.
14. Sudden clearing
Something between a scream and a laugh escapes her lips when the rain starts pouring down on them. Sarah takes a hold of Simon's hand, giggling, and starts running. Heading for the tree house.
Despite being 24 already, she can still act like a teenage kid. Simon doesn't mind. It is part of the reason he loves her.
Smiling he stops running, his hand still in hers. Pulling her close against his body when he sees her questioning gaze. Kissing her, raindrops still falling down on them. They don't notice the sun coming through just a couple of minutes later.
17. Smell of the living earth
Sarah loves the forest at dawn. She loves the smells and the sounds and the colors in the morning. The dew on the grass. The cold fresh breeze that blows through the trees and her hair. The morning sun that caresses the flowers and her face. The leaves that rustle in the wind. It's the most perfect moment of the day. When everything slowly starts to wake up.
18. Grows wild here
All the villagers said roses could only grow when people took care of it. And still she and Simon found a rose bush in the forest. It were the most beautiful roses they had ever seen. They made a promise never to cut off one of the roses. They had to remain pure and untouched.
13. Over the treetops
They are sitting on the wooden floor of the tree house. Her tree house. Their tree house. Sarah allows no one else but him in here. It's her safe-place. Not to be shared with anyone but the man she loves.
They both know this is going to be the last day - the last night - they will spend together. Tomorrow Simon leaves. Leaves because of narrow-minded villagers. Leaves because of the war coming.
She climbs the tree when Simon leaves home to go packing. Her eyes never leave his back until her enters his house.
20. And the forest reclaimed [X]
There are tears in her eyes when she watches Simon leave the village. His name escaping her lips in a soft sob. There is nothing more she wants to do now but to leave her house and run after him. Take his hand in hers and walk with him - proudly - every step of the way.
But his words - these soft whispered words of last night - hold her back.
The tears are running freely over her cheeks when she sees him disappearing between the trees. He never once looked back.
16. Animal tracks
The day after Simon left, she follows his steps. All the way from the village to the forest. Sarah doesn't know how long and 'till where she'd have continued following him if she didn't notice the animal track parallel with Simon's.
She stands still all of a sudden. Recognizing the wolf’s tracks.
Despite being sad her companion left her as well, she's relieved. The wolf will protect Simon from now on.
6. Forest floor
Laughing she lays herself down on the grass field. Before she can help it, she feels how the laughter turns into crying. Tears escaping her eyes, running down her cheeks, falling on the ground.
Never before has she felt so lost and alone and scared. Simon is gone. And she knows she will never see him again.
It will not the last time that she falls asleep in the forest, hidden between the roots of the old oak tree.
5. Mushroom
Sarah knew all the forest's secrets. Either by observing or learning the hard way. She'll never forget the day she ate a raw mushroom and was ill the entire week. Later she learned - her mother told her - that those kind of mushrooms were good, but only when cooked. It were lessons she carried with her and later passed on to her daughter.
11. Berries
As soon as Sarah allowed little Caithlynn to wander through the forest alone, she made sure her daughter knew about all the dangers. Especially the poisonous berries - neither of them fear the animals or getting lost.
12. Bread crumb trail
Caithlynn is silent when they are walking through the forest. Every now and then she breaks a piece of the cookie she has in her hand. Looking back, Sarah smiles and waits for her daughter to catch up with her. Placing her hand on Caithlynn's shoulder. There is no fear to get lost in her daughter's eyes. Looking back down the path, she sees a little fox eating up all the crumbs. Sarah ruffles the little girl's hair. Simon would have done just the same had he noticed the cub.
4. Forest through the trees
There are times when Sarah feels completely lost. Times where she misses Simon too much. Times where little Caithlynn drives her crazy. These are the moments where she doesn't know what to do first and she feels like she might lose her head one day soon. It drives her crazy and tired.
19. Breaking twig
Sarah still knows all the sounds of the forest. Despite her age, she can still identify every bird song, every animal track, every poisonous plant or berry.
So when she hears a twig break behind her, she turns around. Not scared. More in wonder. There is a feeling she hasn't felt for years. A presence. Near. Yet keeping its distance.
She smiles. Knowing the wolf still won't show himself. Knowing that Simon is safe.

Yeah, the forest is her safe-place. Caithlynn partly grew up there. :p That's the reason she loves it that much as well. ^^
