Last Ember !! ^^
1. Sarah
"Don't worry."
She smiles at her daughter. There is faith and pride to be seen on her face.
"Now go. And win."
Sarah frees herself from Caithlynn's embrace and gently pushes her away.
The smile falters when she sees them disappear. No need to be strong anymore. There are tears in her eyes when she lights a candle and places it on the windowsill of the open window. It asks for protection. It is a guide home...
2. Caithlynn
She needs this last hug. Even if she knows her mother will soon push her away. They really have to go...
Caithlynn smiles when she says goodbye. Needs to be strong - if only for her mother. She knows Sarah is only pretending as well.
She looks back when they reach the treeline. Looks back and sees a flame in the open window. A guide home. And her mother's prayer for protection.
3. Alan
Alan stays silent when Sarah and Caithlynn say their goodbyes. He can see the pretence. Of both of them. Of course he sees.
He doesn't speak. Knows they need this moment. Sarah is smart enough to let go and send them on their way.
When they leave, he turns back and nods. A simple gesture. But he knows Sarah understands. Thank you for everything. It's a promise as well. I will look after her. I will protect her.
He looks back when Caithlynn does. Seeing the glow of the candle stirs something deep inside.
4. Frey
Frey is the only one who is not pretending when they say goodbye. There are tears running down his cheeks and he clings to Sarah as if he never wants to let go.
"Easy there little one. It's alright. It's going to be alright."
He shakes his head. Sareah smiles and bends down. Whispering something in his ear. Neither Alan or Caithlynn know what she says, but it cheers Frey up.
He waves when they look back. Even though Sarah can't possibly see the movement anymore.
"Look! She placed a candle on the windowsill."
