“Today,” Ms. Anticosti started. “We are going to make art glass.”

Chloe looked over at Jennifer. She was sketching something on her canvas. Chloe scooted closer to try to see what it was when someone laid their hand on her shoulder.

Chloe looked up surprised.

“Do you know what we’re going to use the art glass for Ms. Parker?” Ms. Anticosti asked cheerfully.

“Um lamps?”

Ms. Anticosti smiled. “That is correct, Ms. Parker. We are going to make art glass for the use of lamps.”

“But isn’t that a little advanced for Art II?” Chloe asked worriedly.

Ms. Anticosti smiled. “It’s just an introduction to it. It’ll set you up for Art III. You are planning on coming back for Art III, aren’t you Ms. Parker?”

Chloe nodded. “I’ll be here.”

Ms. Anticosti patted Chloe’s shoulder before returning to the front of the class.

“Teacher’s pet,” Jennifer said beside her.

Chloe shot her a look but grinned.

“What were you sketching?” Chloe asked trying to get a better look at it.

Jennifer smiled. “Oh that’s Samantha.”

“Samantha?” Chloe asked confused. Jennifer had never told her about a Samantha. Granted they’d only been friends for three and half months, but still.

“Yeah she’s my girlfriend.”

Chloe stopped. She hadn’t been expecting her to say that. Maybe she meant girlfriend as in a friend that’s a girl?

“Like I’m your girlfriend or girlfriend as in girlfriend?”

Jennifer laughed. “The latter.”

Ms. Anticosti started passing out the materials for their projects.

“So you’re a…lesbian?”

“Technically I identify as bisexual,” Jennifer said softly.

“Oh I see,” Chloe said in a small voice.

She turned away from Jennifer.

“This isn’t going to be a problem is it?” Jennifer asked.

“No, why would it be?” Chloe asked. She couldn’t look directly at Jennifer for some reason.

“I know everyone isn’t comfortable with…well gay people.”

“I’m not a bigot, Jennifer,” Chloe said looking at her forehead.

“I didn’t say you were, I just know that in small town communities things tend to be more straight laced and-“

“So what just because Ashwood isn’t the big city like New York, you think we’re prejudice?” Chloe said loudly.

Jennifer looked alarmed.

“Of course not, Chloe, I was just being cautious-“

Chloe stood up. “Who’s judging who now?”

She reached down for her messenger bag. She slung it over her shoulder and stormed down the aisle.

“Whoa what’s wrong with Parker?” A boy in the back asked.

Jennifer groaned. That definitely wasn’t how she expected things to turn out. Why was Chloe acting like this? She had thought she would be cool about it. If anything she expected Jessica to freak out, not that she would ever in her life tell Jessica.

Ms. Anticosti came over to the table.

“Ms. Smith, do you know what’s wrong with Ms. Parker?”

“I think she’s feeling a bit under the weather,” Jennifer lied.

“Did she go to the nurse?”

“Um yeah.”

Ms. Anticosti stared at for a long time before moving on.

Jennifer sighed. This day could die in a fire.

Hmm, that reaction is a little suspicious of Chloe, I gotta say. No wonder Jennifer was nonplussed.

Maybe Chloe has a little crush and doesn't know how to deal with that?
