“Why are you following me, Cas?”

Caslav stopped. He shook his head and walked up to her.

“You weren’t supposed to know that I was here. I thought I was cloaked.”

Euphemia grinned. “Clearly your cloaking needs some working on. Or maybe I’ve just become more adapt at sensing?”

She walked towards the campus food court with Caslav following slowly behind her. There weren’t many students around, but you could never been to sure.

“Euphie, why don’t I find you a nice meal somewhere else, you know the campus security has tightened since the last time you were here.”

Euphemia stopped and turned around slowly.

“Cas, I like my meals a certain way. College girls have a certain taste about them.”

She opened the door to the food court while Caslav reluctantly followed her. He cloaked himself as he entered. If anything happened, he didn’t want his name attached to this.

Euphemia stopped in the middle of the food court. There weren’t many students here. She looked around sniffing while she went.

“What kind are you looking for?” Caslav said coming up beside her.

“Don’t talk to me here,” she hissed. “How silly would I look speaking to thin air?”

“You could show a little more respect to your maker, Euphie.”

She waved him aside. She started sniffing the air which earned her strange looks from some of the girls at the tables.

“I think I’ve found one,” she breathed.

Caslav followed her line of view. She had her eyes on a pretty little thing.

“What do you think she is?” Euphemia muttered.

“You know you’re really standing out talking to yourself and taking those huge sniffs,” Caslav said somewhat amused.

“Are you going to answer me or not?”

“I don’t know, Euphie. I’m assuming she’s human.”

Euphemia glared at him.

Caslav grinned back at her.

“I want her. I’ll wait until she leaves and I’ll follow her home.”

Caslav sighed as Euphemia turned on her heel and left the food court. He followed her out.

“Euphie, if you keep feeding on live humans, you know the VC is going to come after you,” he said once they had officially stepped off the campus.

“To hell with the VC. They’re nothing, but a bunch of stingy politicians in the first place.”

She pulled out a cigarette and lit it.

“Want one?”

“No, they’re bad for my health,” he said sarcastically.

She grinned and blew out.

“I’m serious though Euphie. The VC doesn’t play with secrecy.”

Euphemia rolled her eyes. “I’m not killing them, Cas. I only have a little taste is all. I wipe their memories afterwards.”

“That’s all good and well, but you leave bite marks. People have noticed.”

Euphemia sighed. “That can easily be explained. Ever heard of mosquitoes?”

Caslav smiled and ruffled her blonde hair. “You are a mosquito.”

“I’m so glad you think of me as a pest,” she said pushing his hand away.

“You’re my pest, Euphie.”

She smiled and threw down her cigarette. She started sniffing the air.

“I smell dinner. It’s about time as I haven’t eaten in a week.”

Caslav sighed and re-cloaked himself.

“I’m leaving Euphie. Try not to kill the girl. You’ve got that look in your eye.”

She smiled and started following the woman. Caslav turned away.

“I’ll check on her tomorrow. Maybe she’ll be in a better mood after she’s eaten?” He asked himself.

She won’t. His subconscious told him. But he could still hope.

Hmmm. I sense bad things ahead for that poor girl.

Your story tag has been added.

Euphie seems headed down a bad road. Nice little glimpse of how the vampire world in this story works. What does VC stand for?
