Summary: Rayne grows up, Sarah survives, and Angie starts to change.

"Fancy", Reba McEntire
May 2001 - Rayne is 15.

Rayne didn't feel nervous until she actually tied the apron around her waist. Suddenly it seemed like an anchor weighing her down. She peeked out at the crowded barroom, trying to ignore how her heart felt like it was pounding out of her chest, and wondered what she was doing there. Did other fifteen year old girls worry about this?

She jumped when her mother squeezed her shoulders comfortingly. "What do I do, Mama?"

"Be nice to them, and they'll be nice to you," Sage answered, pressing a kiss into her hair. "And be mean if you have to be."

"Knee Deep", Zac Brown Band
November 2004 - Sarah is 14.

Her parents were fighting again. With Angie gone, and how they ignored her, they just turned on each other, and Angie was gone and Sarah was still here. Desperately, she shut her eyes and tried to imagine she was somewhere else in an attempt to shut them out. Somewhere sunny, a beach, and Angie was there and in a good mood-

Sarah flinched when something hit the wall closet to her and broke, bringing her back to reality. After the screaming got louder, she slammed her hands over her ears and imagined how she'd follow Angie out of there instead.

"The Man in Love With You," George Strait
January 2014 - Angie and Rayne are 27.

This was bad. Rayne caught him, and he could barely think (that was a fucking lie, he could think just fine, he was only thinking too much), and Rayne wasn't even screaming or looking at him, and he didn't know what the fuck was going to happen.

Lie. She was going to yell and scream and leave and that had him even more desperate for a line because if Rayne left him, what was the point?

"You either stop, or I'm leaving you," was all Rayne said before she left the bathroom.

It was an obvious but surprisingly hard choice.

ANGIE. DUDE. GET IT TOGETHER, HARD AS IT IS.

Poor Sarah, man. And Rayne. Both of them were just thrown into those situations, and...man. And of course Angie turned to drugs, considering, but...dude. Come on, for Rayne, at least.

Oh, Angie. Listen to Rayne.

It was an obvious but surprisingly hard choice.

I love this line, because it's so true.

I like the underlying thread of strength here: Rayne doing what she has to and Sarah surviving and Angie doing what he has to. It's hurty, but at the same time weirdly hopeful, because you know they all make it.

Great job.
