Frey slips out of the house at night. Thanking the Stars that the doors do not creak. Despite being only eight years old, this is something he really has to do alone.

Caithlynn will probably be worried sick if she discovers he's gone out. But she'd only insist on coming with him if he warns her now. And she can't.

There's a sense of peace that falls over him when he enters the forest. And it's only now, when he walks barefoot over the mss, trees surrounding him, that he understands why Caithlynn loves this place so much.

Nervously he looks up to the sky. He does not know how he has to do this. Doesn't know if there are certain rituals or words to connect with a Dragon.

"Hello Little One."

It is the first time he actually hears the voice. The previous calls were more like... feelings.

Frey looks up, eyes wide open. But there is no fear.

It's not the first time he's seen a Dragon. Travelling with Caithlynn and Alan made sure of that. He grew rather fond of Taigiri and Naigendra. And he has always wondered how his Dragon would be.

An open, happy smile breaks through.

"You are awesome."

The Dragon chuckles and it echoes through the threes. The moon reflecting on its blue scales.

The Dragon carefully places his wing around the silent boy. Wondering why the conversation suddenly fell still... It doesn't need to ask for Frey to know.

"I don't know what to do..."

Carefully he leans against the Dragon's front paw. And it can suddenly sense the boy's fear. Not that Frey is afraid of the creature. He's afraid he'll lose the Dragon because he doesn't know how to make the connection.

Far in the distance he can hear Caithlynn's worried voice. Calling out for him.
It is only now that he notices the sun is shining brightly already.

"It is time."

Surprised Frey looks up. Wanting to say once more that he doesn't know how to.

"But you do know how."

The faith in his Dragon's voice is all the kid needs. He opens his arms. As if to embrace the creature.

"Kayerith."

An excited roar is his answer.

An excited laugh escapes him and he spreads his arms. Only holding on by his knees pressed into Kayerith's flanks.

"Awesome!"

His Dragon's chuckle echoes through the sky.

Beneath them Frey sees Caithlynn looking up. Smiling proudly. And out in the distance he hears Taigiri and Naigendra roar. Greeting their fellow ally.

~ * ~ * ~

"Wow."

A soft whisper. His legs are trembling when he puts his feet back on the ground. The kid giggles softly when he feels his Dragon's head playfully push his arm.

"You guys certainly took your time. It's past lunch time already."

Alan's voice is a little cold and reprimanding. Though next to him, Caithlynn is smiling broadly.

"Amazing feeling, isn't it?"

Frey laughs and nods while wrapping his arms around Kayerith's neck. A surprised look crosses his face when Caithlynn bows her head in greeting to the Dragon.

"Welcome to the family."

"Caithlynn?"

She looks up from her plate when she hears his timid voice.

"I thought Dragons never showed themselves during the day unless absolutely necessary."

Frey is looking thoughtful at his dinner.

"So then why did Kayerith take me on his back and fly with me the entire morning right until noon? All the villagers saw us..."

It's a mischievous smile that's suddenly on her lips.

"Because that was necessary."

A non-understanding look on Frey's face. It makes Caithlynn laugh.

"Don't worry. You'll understand one day."

Her hand gently ruffles through his hair.

Because people need to believe in Dragons...

I know he's just a child but he somehow has moments that make me forget his age... Or else it's just the fact that he's such a young Element Wielder that amazes me time and again ^_____^ Already I can't imagine a SitD without him.
