Gamblers, thieves, and gangsters all know about Guem Chan-wook and his seven children. He’s collected them from four different countries: South Korea, Taiwan, China, and Japan. He’s stolen, kidnapped, and bought all seven; the ones no one wanted. Chan-wook has made them the best of the best. The rumor is he started collecting children after the death of his beloved, Sakurai Takara.

The Gambler:

Gu Eddie was born in 1975 to a Japanese mother and a Taiwanese father. His mother was beaten to death and his father beat Eddie, than called Hue Yu Yan, daily. When he met Chan-wook, Eddie got a new name and left his orphanage. Chan-wook taught Eddie to gamble; he made the young teen his equal. They formed a partnership and the rumors flew throughout the gambling world: Geum Chan-wook and Gu Eddie were the ones to watch.

The Doctor:

Hu Jin was born in 1981 born in Beijing, China as Fok Jun Wei. His mother died in childbirth and his father used the boy as payment when he owed collectors. Guem Chan-wook stole the boy and taught him all the old gambling games.

But, the boy was never made for gambling and the underside world. He made a few files and made up another Hu Jin that was rich and important. He went to America and became a doctor. Chan-wook and his children have their own doctor whose brilliant and noble. He’s Chan-wook’s pride.

The Enforcer:

Mason. One name, because men like him only need one name, was born in South Korea in 1983. He was Moon In wook, then. The boy was an artist; his hands were his talent. But, his mind . . . he had no talent for cards or dice. Chan-wook saw Mason’s true talents and made the teen a fighter.
The rumors flew and before Mason could blink, he was the one the gangsters looked toward. They paid the young man to use his fists and legs and feet to fight. He could put down the best; he was feared.

The Lover:

Oto Jiro was born in Japan in the year 1985. He was eleven years old and living in an orphanage when he followed Chan-wook home. The boy had a natural charm. It soon became a saying: ”Don’t leave anyone alone with Oto Jiro. Not unless you want them to be seduced.” Women, men, young or old – Jiro could make them love him. He got them comfortable and his brothers came in to finish the deal.

Eddie and Jin could take your money, Mason could beat you to death; but, Jiro was the most dangerous. Because he’d steal your heart.

The Forger:

Masaki Taka was born in 1991, and found in the same orphanage as Jiro, several years after Jiro joined Chan-wook. She reminded Chan-wook of Takara, and so he named her after his beloved. The girl was a selective mute and nearly emotionless. Though she appeared cold on the outside, inside she was kind. While she could play poker with the best of them, her true talent was forging documents for Chan-wook and his children.

Taka liked forging documents, it had reason and it came easy to her. Her talent was her strength; it made her happy.

The Thief:

Ling “Ling’er” Sara was bought from a factory by Chan-wook. She had been born in 1993, and by the 2000s she was already used to hardships. Ling’er eyes saw the world in a different way. Over the years her eye sight slowly drifted away – she saw the world as blurry. It was like being underwater. Ling’er was nearly blind, but her hands still moved. Her tiny hands moved with more grace and speed than any of Chan-wook’s other children’s. She was a natural thief. If she could find your wallet, she’d take it; all with the sweetest of smiles.

The Seductresses:

Kim Aoi was born in 1987 and saved from child prostitution by Guem Chan-wook when she was a teenager. She was a beauty and could seduce any man with her charms and graces. Like Jiro, she would get them comfortable; she would play the fool. Unlike Jiro, she could finish the deal herself. She was as good a card player as Eddie; maybe even better. Aoi was the whole package.

You changed your mind and decided to run some of this here! Hurray! I am into that.

[Aoi's my favorite so far, BTW. But, I'm still getting into it.]

I wasn't sure if it was OK to go get squee all over said journal.

So, do we want that or a MASSIVE LETTER? I can do either.

This is a lovely snapshot of your characters; I love the names, and you've posted just enough to make me want more on each of them. Lovely job.

This is a great introduction. I see it playing out like credits on a TV show. Nicely done!
