The museum is one of Romeo’s favorite spots in the city-- it’s beautiful, wide open and serene even when brimming with tourists and students, and in the past few years, he’s spent a lot of time wandering through the exhibits with his kids. So he’s excited to spend the day herding bored, listless high schoolers around, fruitlessly struggling to instill some sort of enthusiasm in them.
“They say-- Rodcliff, cut it out-- they say that you can tell-- Rodcliff, I swear to god, do you want a week of detention? No? Then just leave it alone. Like I was saying, they say that you can tell the exact age based on--”
“Based on the notches made along the underside,” a voice finishes.
Romeo turns just as the woman steps into view, bypassing the huddle of kids. She is, to put it simply, breathtakingly beautiful-- tall, blonde, slim, and, if he’s properly placing the accent, German. For the first time in years, there’s a fluttering sensation deep within Romeo’s chest His mind instantly goes blank.
“Uh, that’s--” He shakes his head, willing the gears to start turning. “That’s right.” Romeo gestures toward the students, adding, “I was just telling the kids here about the process of dating artifacts like these.”
“They seem... riveted.” She eyes the group, most of whom are using this interlude as an opportunity to check their phones and start chatting.
Romeo flushes. “Infectious, isn’t it?” He swallows hard, holding out a hand. “I’m Romeo. I teach, obviously. School field trip, you know.” Mentally, he flinches at how corny and stilted he sounds.
“Abigail,” she replies, blinding him with her smile. “Curator. Have we met before? You seem awfully familiar.”
“Oh, no, um.” The kids are ignoring them, thankfully. “I think I’d remember meeting someone like you. That is to say, I mean-- no. No, we haven’t.” Why on earth is he still talking? “But I am here a lot. With my children.”
“Ah, of course. I was sure I recognized you.” She hesitates before continuing, “I’m unfortunately needed at the moment, but if what you say is true perhaps we’ll see one another again soon.” Abigail brushes a hand over his shoulder. “And I would like that.”
“I love it here. At the museum.” Oh god, what is he doing? “What I mean is, I hope so. I, uh, I always relish an opportunity to talk to an expert.”
She laughs, and the sound drives straight through him. “I’ll leave you to your class then, Romeo. Until next time?”
As his gaze follows her through the crowd, Romeo makes a mental note to set aside an afternoon for a museum excursion that very weekend.

In about two or three days, I imagine Romeo's going to start freaking the hell out and second-guessing himself, but until then, he is so smitten. He needs this.

Sorry, I had to. It's the enthusiasm. I can still hear the bored kids prattling on in the background towards the end and all XD.

Because I already shared it, have a photo of Abigail.

You know he's going to go home and immediately become so distraught with guilt, thinking he's cheating on Penny or sullying her memory or something. With any luck, he has the sense to call Nic pretty quickly, before he has a chance to change his mind too much.
