Warnings: none
Notes: none

Rachel might have been lying when she called Orange County irredeemable.

Not that she doesn't still hate most of it. The traffic, the smog, the residents, the impossibility of getting anything at a decent price, she hates all of that. But there is also the beach.

There is sand between her toes, gritty and cleansing, clinging to her floor mats for weeks. There is the rush of the ocean, wild and soothing, echoing in her dreams. There is the water cool on her ankles and wrists, the cries of seabirds, the scent of salt and brine.

Maybe it's not irredeemable.

I like how clear Rachel's feelings come through in this--you can really hear that grudging "OK, it's not all bad," after she thinks about the beach. Good job!

And now.

NOW YOU ALMOST MADE ME MISS THE JOINT.

At least the beachglass.

*nostalgic sigh ensues*

Sometimes that one thing can make everything else bearable. Nicely done.
