He misses her most at night.
During the day he has things to do, places to be. At night he sits on the fire escape and watches the stars arc above, diamond pinpricks in velvety black. She used to complain that she could never see enough of them, drowned by the city lights. He misses her voice.
It's not a pain, precisely, it's more like an ache, or a hole, a little emptiness where she was. He knows it'll ease in time.
He knows it'll never really go away.
He presses a hand to his heart, and watches the stars.
