The author of the books mentioned in this piece is Aubin Salor, who lived and wrote during the 700s in Monde during the Tenabara period.

Jean Luc found his sister in the library. She was bent over a stack of books.

He came up behind her but if she noticed his presence, she didn’t let on. He touched her shoulder.

“What are you doing, sweet sister?”

“I’m reading,” she said without lifting her head.

Jean Luc took a seat next to her. He picked up one of the books.

The Tragedy of King Herminus II and His Beloved, Queen Aelia Minor, Volume I? Since when have you been interested in these books, Anna?”

She snatched the book away from her brother. She glared at him.

“Why are you worried about it, dear brother? You’ve never been one to read anything in the first place.”

Jean Luc laughed and yanked his sister’s gable hood.

“It’s funny that you should be reading that teratology of all things,” Jean Michele said.

“Why?” Anna asked flipping the page of the book.

“Some of the more enthusiastic clergy members have likened your situation with the King to the situation between Herminus and Aelia.”

Anna laughed. “So I’ve heard, brother. But they are just zealots. I know for a fact that the same clergymen that are preaching against me now, preached against His Majesty, the late King, when he had Henri marry the Infanta. These people can’t make their mind up.”

Jean Luc nodded. “But you should be careful, Anna. The clergy is very powerful. You know that Cardinal Chastian is not fond of you.”

Anna frowned. “What should I care what that man thinks?”

“The King trusts his opinion a great deal and he is the Grand Minister of Monde and the Beatua depends on him heavily for order here.”

She sighed. “So I should kiss Cardinal Chastian’s ass so he’ll like me? I’ll tell you brother that man is on his way out. When I am Queen, I shall replace him with one of my own on the Council.”

Jean Michele laughed and pulled his sister into a hug.

“I like the way you think, Anna. Chastian is loyal to the Queen above all others, but if he wants to stay in the King’s good graces, he’ll have no choice but to accept you.”

Anna joined in with his laughter. “I know. He’ll hate it!”

They laughed for awhile longer. After that the room grew quiet and Anna began to flip through the pages of the second book.

Jean Luc stood up.

“I’ll leave you to your reading sister. Be careful though.”

Anna smiled at her brother. He winked at her before leaving the library. Left alone, Anna returned to the solace of her book. The story had always been one of her favorites.

Anna is just not a very good person, is she? She or her brother.

Heh. Did she get the idea from the book, or is she just drawing strength from the story?
