Characters: Isshiri, Riluke

Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.

Riluke waited a few days before visiting her cousin. She told him stories--all his favorites. He was vacant-eyed, probably from painkillers, but he smiled at the usual places, so he was aware, at least.

When her time was up, she whispered what Papa told her when she learned why she was treated different. "No matter what, you're loved. And I'm here for you."

He gave that woozy, crooked smile again, and she kissed his forehead before slipping out.

It wasn't the same--not at all the same--but hopefully it was what he needed to hear. Hopefully she’d helped.

I just read the piece you linked to and wow it was very powerful with the imagery. I hope Isshiri gets better.

Awwwwwww. Riluke had the best dad, and she IS the best cousin. Nicely done.

Riluke is the sweetest cousin--this is a great snapshot of their relationship.
