Summary: Thomas compares his wife to Queen Analise.
Thomas frowned as he looked over at his wife, Dorothee. She didn’t seem to notice him watching her as she was concentrating on mending their daughter’s gown.
He found himself comparing to the Queen. His wife was beautiful with her pale blonde hair and light green eyes. But when he compared her to Analise, she just seemed plain.
“Dorothee?”
“Yes sweetheart?” She answered without looking up.
“What do you think of the Queen?”
Dorothee looked up then. She had a questioning look in her eyes. She opened her mouth to say something, but she shut it.
“I asked you a question, sweet wife. What do you think of Queen Analise?”
“There was never a fairer queen,” Dorothee said quietly.
Thomas smiled. “The Queen is anything but fair. But she has something about her that draws people to her.”
“Indeed.”
“Has she ever confided in you?” Thomas asked.
Dorothee was quiet for a moment. “The Queen has never confided in me. But she treats me with great respect.”
Thomas laughed. “As she should, you’re the aunt to the heir to the throne.”
Dorothee didn’t join in with her husband’s laughing.
“I wonder if she preaches heresy to the King while they are in bed.”
Dorothee looked up her husband. He had a very strange look in his eye.
“The King seems to be pleased with her,” Dorothee said.
Thomas nodded. “She boils my blood that woman. I don’t know what it is about her.”
Dorothee lowered her eyes.
“But she’s nothing compared to you, my dear wife.”
Dorothee reluctantly smiled. But she knew her husband was lying. She tried not to let it bother her as she went back to mending little Louise’s gown.
