Kellom stroked Tana's hair lightly. "I've missed you lately."
Tana rolled her eyes and curled closer to him. "Well, you're the one who's kept telling me not to come."
"Can we not have this fight right now?"
Tana sighed, then sat up. "There's wine over here. Do you want some?"
"I have an early meeting in the morning," he told her.
"Just a little bit," she said, extracting herself from the blankets and his arms.
She's in a good mood, and I don't actually have to drink it. "All right." He stood up himself, wrapping the sheet around his waist.
She grinned at him and poured a glass.
"Hey--"
"What?"
"That's more than a little," he pointed out.
Tana rolled her eyes and handed him the glass.
He took a sip, then paused. "You aren't having any?"
"I don't like white wine, and you don't have any red," she reminded him. "By the way, I'm pregnant."
He choked on the wine. "What."
"I would've told you sooner, but you were so busy..."
"You're pregnant? What--how did--?"
Tana started giggling. "Really? You don't know? Well, darling, since you and I love each other very much and have spent quite a bit of time naked and touching each other all over--and I mean all--"
"But I...we've been careful." Fuck tomorrow. He downed the rest of the wine.
Tana shrugged. "Not careful enough, I guess. More wine?"
"Yes." He waited while she poured for him, trying to think. "...what do you want to do? Do you want the child?"
"I wouldn't've told you at all if I didn't," Tana said, rolling her eyes again.
"I can't claim..."
Tana set the bottle down with a loud clank. "This is our baby. Darling."
"And what do you think will happen if I--"
"You'll have the heir you always wanted," she snapped. "Stupid Mellir is dead, our child will be a thousand million times better than Andrell. Forget what Mother will think."
"It's not Mother I'm worried about," Kellom said. "It's the rest of the country. Tana, you're my sister. I can't claim your child."
"No one else is going to! And if anyone tries, I'll stab them like a freak."
"Tana." He knew she liked a level of personal involvement in the Purge, and he was hardly going to tell her she shouldn't--it kept her happy and occupied, after all, and it needed to be done--but he would draw the line if she ever killed a human.
She didn't turn, but she did mutter, "Sorry."
"All right." He finished his second glass of wine, slowly, then set it down. "How far along are you?"
"Twelve weeks."
"Does anyone else know?"
Still not turning, she shook her head. "Just the midwife who confirmed. I wanted to tell you first."
Good. "You trust her?"
Tana laughed a little. "She won't tell anyone."
Kellom decided he didn't want to know. "All right," he said, after another moment's thought. "Here's what we're going to do."
"So you get to make all the decisions now? You don't even want our baby."
"Don't put words in my mouth," he shot back. "If I could claim the child, I would."
"You have a mouth. You have hands, you can write. You're the King. You can do whatever the hell you want!"
"You know it's more complicated than that. I need people to willingly keep giving me money and soldiers."
Tana threw the wine bottle against the wall. Fortunately not in his direction this time.
Kellom sighed, and picked up where he'd left off. "I'll look through the records. I'll find a soldier who died around the right time. You and he spent an evening together, he charmed you and you let him spend the night. I won't be the child's legal father, but I will be in every way except on paper."
"You should be the legal father," Tana muttered, but most of the tantrum was over, much to Kellom's relief.
"I wish I could," he said, sighing. "Come back to bed, Tana."
She stood there for a minute, then finally turned back to him. She was crying, and he wished...
He walked over to her and kissed her forehead, then her eyelids. "Everything will work out, darling. I promise." I will raise our child and I will win this war and everything in the world will be perfect, for you and our child and everyone.

Yeah, this AU is all kinds of crack. And Kellom definitely functions better than Tana. Tana just likes Kellom and killing things, pretty much XD
