“You’re getting so big,” Elisabetta Everart said to her daughter, Anna.
Anna smiled and rubbed her round belly. She was about six months along now.
“He keeps me up at night.”
Elisabetta smiled and touched her daughter’s belly.
“I’m getting old. It feels so weird that my youngest daughter is pregnant,” Elisabetta said smiling when she felt a light kick.
Anna laughed. “Mother you already have a number of grandchildren from Jean Luc and Marie. But my son shall be your first royal grandchild.”
Elisabetta raised her eyebrows at her daughter. She took a seat in the chair next to Anna.
“What if this babe is a girl, my dear?”
Anna looked over at her mother. “It’s a boy.”
“You have no way of telling, sweets.”
“The King says my belly is wide, so it must be a boy,” Anna said frowning.
Elisabetta shook her head. “An old wives tale, your father said the same thing when I was I pregnant with you and you’re a girl aren’t you?”
“Mother, you are making me angry,” Anna said with a warning in her voice.
A flash of anger crossed Elisabetta’s eyes. But it was quickly gone. She sighed.
“I guess we will find out when the babe is born.”
Anna nodded.
“How are things with His Majesty?” Elisabetta asked changing the subject.
Anna smiled broadly. “His Majesty showers me with gifts. He boasts to his men that I shall be the mother to a great king.”
Elisabetta smiled softly at her daughter. “Do you truly love him, my dear? I know you were upset when…”
Anna nodded. “I did love Rainer, but in the end I believe I married the man I’m supposed to spend the rest of my life with.”
Elisabetta chuckled. “And it doesn’t hurt that the man is the King of Monde.”
Both women burst out laughing. Anna’s ladies looked from their sewing towards the duo but didn’t say anything.
“Yes, of course mother. That surely doesn’t hurt at all,” Anna said.
Elisabetta reached for her daughter’s hand. “I am glad you are happy. It pleases my heart that my baby girl is happy.”
Anna squeezed her mother’s hand. “Now we need to work on getting Pierre married.”
Elisabetta let out a snort. “Pierre promised to me when he was eight that he would never marry and so far he’s stuck to it. The boy wants to be free.”
“I will make him a respectable marriage mother. He can’t refuse his Queen.”
Elisabeth smiled, but didn’t say anything. Oh these children of mine.
