Notes: The Beatua is the Head of the Brondian Church and is located in Canillo. Alessandro de Loacharno is Anna's uncle through her mother, Elisabetta de Loacharno.

Anna was sitting in the rose garden when she heard a deep male voice call her.

She turned around to find the King walking towards her. She had to admit that even though she was angry at him, he still made her heart speed up.

“Lady Anna,” he said when he arrived in front of her.

Anna bowed her head and gave him a weak smile.

“May I sit?” Henri asked.

Anna laughed on the inside. She wanted to say that he was King and he could do as he pleased, but she refrained from speaking this particular thought.

“You may,” she said patting the stone bench.

She scouted over and the King sat down next to her. They were silent for awhile. Anna was hyperaware of the energy between them. She opened her mouth to say something, but Henri spoke first.

“I have missed you, Nana,” he said quietly.

Anna ignored the use of his pet name for her. She concentrated instead of his declaration. He had missed her! This revelation made her heart sore.

“I have missed you as well, Your Majesty.”

Henri took her hand in his and begin to rub it softly.

“I’m sorry about the…baby,” Anna said.

Henri looked away, but didn’t say anything. He continued to rub her hand.

“I suppose the Holy Father will not let me have a son by my wife,” Henri said.

Anna nodded and remained silent.

“I only stayed with Therese because of the child,” Henri said looking at her then.

Anna stared into his light blue eyes. She wanted to believe that was true and that he truly didn’t love the Queen. But she couldn’t make herself.

“What will you do now? The Queen may have a few more years left to bore a living son.”

Henri shook his head. “I will have no more children by the Queen. I will have to take a new wife.”

Anna’s heart began beating wildly. She slipped her hand out of his and placed it over her chest. Was he suggesting what she thought?

Henri turned her to face him. He kissed her lightly on the mouth.

“Mine own sweetheart,” he said brushing a strand of brown hair out of her eye. He kissed her lightly on the head.

“Henri,” she said softly.

He pulled a ring off of his pinkie finger.

“I will have you as my wife, Anna Louise Everart. I have loved none but you,” he said slipping the ruby ringer of her finger.

Anna stared down at the ring. He had given her his ring! Even though he had promised her he would be free before he had never given her the ring to cement the alliance and now her feelings were validated. She was to be Henri’s wife. She was to be Queen.

“I will do anything to make you happy Anna,” he said kissing the palm of her hand.

Anna leaned on his shoulder. He put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer.

“I will renew my claim with the Beatua. He will not refuse me.”

Anna felt anxious. The Beatua had been silent on the matter for a year. Even with her Uncle Alessandro claiming on her behalf, the Beatua had been silent.

“What if he does?” Anna whispered.

Henri looked at her and smiled. “Then I will go above him.”

She saw the look of determination in Henri’s eyes and she pitied anyone would went against him when he had that look.

“I trust you, Henri,” Anna said sincerely.

Henri placed a kiss on her cheek. They sat like there for awhile until Henri’s advisers came looking for him. He kissed her before he left and Anna was left longing for the moment when they could be together forever.

Her anticipation here hurts, knowing what happens.
