White Opal 5, Iceberg 4, Rust 8: Experiment
Author: Kat
Title: Experiment
Story: In The Heart
Colors: White opal 5 (solitude), iceberg 4 (long nights), rust 8 (tarnish) with Sara's paint-by-numbers (It's okay. Frank will get a new family.).
Supplies and Materials: Charcoal (Frank), canvas (Danny is roughly thirteen), miniature, acrylic (investigation), stain (The only thing that sustains one through life is the consciousness of the immense inferiority of everybody else, and this is a feeling that I have always cultivated. - Oscar Wilde), seed beads.
Word Count: 100
Rating: G.
Summary: The hypothesis is correct.
Notes: Frank Sierbenski, ladies and gentlemen. Is it any wonder Danny's so messed up?
The first time he left was an experiment.
He chose the darkest, coldest days of the year, to see if being alone on those long winter nights would make him sad. He rented a hotel suite, told his wife he was leaving her, and spent December and January alone.
As he'd expected, it was deeply relaxing, being without shouting children or hysterical screaming. He could do as he liked, without shrill demands for locations or times.
Hypothesis correct, he concluded, even as he told Rebecca he'd changed his mind. The shine had worn off this family.
Time to try again.
