“I can’t believe you are getting married again, Father,” Marie said to her father.
Henri straightened his black jerkin. He looked in the floor length mirror and turned to the side.
“What do you think Marie-Therese? Does your father look good?”
“You always look good, Father,” Marie said coming over to stand next to her father.
“Betha, what do you think?” Henri asked.
Elisabeth looked up from her painting. She assessed her father and then smiled.
“You look stunning, Papa. Cosette is very lucky.”
Henri laughed. “No, I am lucky. Cosette is unlike anyone I have ever met before.”
Elsewhere in the Palace.
“How do I look, Maude?” Cosette said to her daughter.
Maude was busy playing with a doll that the King had given her.
“You look great, Mama,” Maude said pulling off the doll's pink dress.
Cosette laughed. “You haven’t even looked, my little liar.”
“Mama always looks good,” Rene said tugging at Cosette’s kirtle.
She bent down and kissed the boy’s soft little cheek. “Thank you, my son.”
Rene wiped off his mother’s kiss, but smiled at her nonetheless. The little boy was charming to a fault.
“Are you marrying Uncle Gilles?” Rene asked.
Cosette frowned. “No, I am marrying the King.”
“So you’ll be Queen?”
Cosette nodded and then turned back to her vanity. She began to brush her strawberry colored hair.
“Will I be a prince?” Rene asked.
Before Cosette could answer, Maude beat her to it.
“No, you’ll be Lord Somhme stupid. The King isn’t your father.”
“Maude!”
Maude looked at her mother stern’s face and didn’t say anything more.
“You’ll get to play with the little prince, my dear. How would you like that?” Cosette asked her son.
The boy appeared to think about it for awhile before answering. “I’d like it better if I could play with Princess Abigail.”
“Well she is your age. I’m sure you’ll be fast friends.”
“Little baby Rene has a crush on Ab-i-gail!” Maude sung out.
“Maude, I’m warning you,” Cosette said warningly to her daughter.
“Sorry Mama,” Maude said jumping off the great tester bed and walking over to her mother. She elbowed her brother slyly and preened up at her mother.
Cosette frowned at her daughter, but didn’t say anything else. How was she going to deal with ten children? At least the Princess Marie was a woman grown and could help her with the younger ones.

“It looks as though the entire royal court is here,” Danyel Droullin said to Gabriel de Faucon.
Danyel and Gabriel were in a third row pew, two rows higher than they were at the last royal wedding.
Gabriel nodded. He looked around the St. Ambroise Cathedral for his wife, Celine.
“What are you looking for?” Danyel asked.
“My wife,” Gabriel said simply.
Danyel laughed and slapped Gabriel on the back so hard, the man flew forward. Gabriel coughed and picked himself back up.
“There she is man, coming up the aisle.”
Gabriel looked back and there was indeed Celine, Duchess Rorflrod, was coming up the aisle. His wife was beautiful no doubt. She looked very much like her sister, Martine. Fortunately she was smarter than her sister had ever been.
Celine slipped into the pew next to him and gently kissed her husband on the cheek.
“Where were you, dear wife?” Gabriel said sitting down next to her.
“The baby needed to be fed. She was simply demanding it,” Celine said laughing slightly.
“Marielle is getting so big,” Danyel said joining the conversation.
“She takes after her father,” Gabriel said proudly.
Both Danyel and Celine laughed. The organ started playing and the church quieted down.
The King came down the aisle first as Mondian tradition demanded. The King looked dashing in all back with his rubies glittering around his neck. He made it to the priest and bent down.
Lady Cosette was next. She was in the traditional Mondian blue. She smiled at all the patrons before she came to the end of the aisle and bent down next to the King.
“Let the Holy Father bless us!” The priest said.
“Amen,” The church echoed. The priest beckoned for the King and Lady Cosette to stand up.
“Does it bother you that the King is getting married so soon after…?” Gabriel trailed off.
Celine shook her head, but she looked sad. Gabriel knew his wife was thinking about her sister and possibly her nieces, Diana and Ana.
“Cosette will take good care of them,” Gabriel whispered.
Celine looked at him and then smiled. “We will all take good care of them.
”
Gabriel took his wife’s hand and squeezed and looked back towards the King and Cosette.
“In the name of the Holy Father, the Holy Mother, and the Holy Son I pledge myself to thee,” the King and his lady said to each other.
“Then by the power invested in me by the Holy One on Mundas, I pronounce thee husband and wife,” the priest said.
Henri kissed Cosette lovingly before taking her hand. The royal couple turned around and made their way back down the aisle and out the doors. The rest of the royal family followed.
Danyel stood up. “I still haven’t lost all the weight from the last wedding.”

The King and Queen were sitting at the head table. Henri could hardly take his eyes off of his queen. Queen Cosette smiled prettily.
A little ways down the table, the de Caulmont brothers were sitting.
“I thought you wanted the Puchot girl for yourself brother,” Thomas said to Gilles.
Gilles smiled and looked at Cosette. “I did brother. But she’ll be a better prize to me when she’s the King’s widow instead of Cosette, Dowager Somhme.”
Thomas looked around to see if anyone had heard his brother. Then he smiled at him.
“You are a sneaky one.”
Gilles smiled and picked up his cup and drained it.
“What you speak of is treason though dear brother,” Thomas warned.
“Everyone knows the King is lonely and wants companionship and a mother to his children. I’m doing him a favor.”
“You should learn well what happened to our council member,” Thomas said.
“Marc de Valles was a dumbass. I’m not planning on sleeping with the Queen.”
“But you pushed her towards the King, am I correct brother?”
Gilles smiled.
Thomas shook his head. “I shall keep your secret brother.”
“Thank you. And I shall keep yours.”
Thomas started to say something, but thought better of it. Let his foolish brother think he had something over him. It would keep him compliant.
