Augusto
He should have done something. He should have stopped all this. Looking at David's miserable face...
But there's no denying it, the boy has created a child, and he must take responsibility for that child and its mother. No matter what Martina has accused him of, he has always held to that: he has been responsible for his children, and for their mothers, however intentional.
The child is the most guiltless in all this. It bothers him that it may be the most to suffer.
But what other road is there?
Martina
She would have avoided this if she could.
She loves David, she really does, and it is because she loves him that she's made this marriage happen. It's the only way to teach her child responsibility, and the respect for women he so clearly lacks. To have a child at sixteen is bad enough-- she cannot let him do it outside of marriage.
She grieves for what he is losing as he repeats his vows with a white face, wedding himself to a divorced whore.
But if she loves him-- and she does-- there is no other course she can take.
Torey
He tried to save David. He really did.
He tried to buy off Maggie, tried to dampen the impact, argued against making them marry, and nothing he said had any effect.
He still tried. He hopes David knows that. He doesn't expect David to be thinking about it now, staring white-faced at the priest, but he hopes he knows it anyway.
Even though he couldn't stop it, he hopes David knows that he tried.
Johnny
Fucker had this coming. Trust David to try and squirm out of the consequences. It's the least the little shit can do after knocking Maggie up, isn't it? Still, Johnny wishes this wasn't happening.
This is Maggie, too, after all. Maggie who's been his friend for forever, and he knows they'll be miserable. He can see it in David's tight mouth and the fear hovering behind Maggie's smugness.
But what can be done? This is what they've both earned.
Teresa
Teresa loves weddings, all the flowers and the happiness, the pretty dress she gets to wear and the smiles on everyone's faces. This is different, though, not at all like Lea's wedding-- everything is dark, and no one is smiling. No one is happy, least of all David.
She doesn't like Maggie. She's sure that, however Maggie made David marry her, it wasn't fair. She's sure David shouldn't marry her. She said so, but Mama just said she didn't understand.
But Teresa does understand. This shouldn't happen.
She just doesn't know how to stop it.
David
The fucking bitch looks so fucking happy, like she's getting everything she fucking wanted. Of course, she is. She gets to be a Corlioni, whoop-de-fucking-do. Right now, David wants to be anything but who he is, a Corlioni getting married at sixteen to a knocked-up bitch he hates.
He couldn't stop it. Ever since the bitch told him about the brat, he's felt like he's falling, inescapably, unstoppably. He couldn't stop her from destroying his life.
He couldn't stop her, but he can sure as fuck make her regret what she did to him.
And he will.
