“She says, literally spitting out blood and being actively stitched up.”

Jace did worry too much, for some reason. He worried as if Mackenzie wasn’t quite used to the taste of her own blood. It was familiar in a disturbing way if she allowed herself to think that there was anything wrong with her life.

It wasn’t heroism, like fellow agents seemed to believe. You saved my life, she heard many times already, you’re a hero. Misty-eyed thank yous, genuinely grateful smiles.

Oh, if they only knew how much blood stained her trembling hands.
