BONSAI
Isamu points to the wild bonsai they pass on their way up the side of the mountain. Natsu follows the direction of his hand with her gaze. The tree is huge and leans over dangerously, as if on the verge of throwing itself off its perch.
“Natsu-sama is like that tree,” he tells her, his voice firm, unyielding. This one thing he will not let her question. “It can live in a wealthy man’s garden, or even in his house, all trimmed and tended to, but only in its true element will it grow to dimensions no man could pretend to fathom.”
“It is jumping,” Natsu comments, teasingly. “Am I jumping, Isamu?”
“You’re doing exactly what pleases you at any given moment, even when it is bringing you to the edge of death.” Isamu dismisses her and continues up the pathway.
Without saying anything more, accepting the truth of his observation, Natsu follows.
