Hunter though Mack was like a dragon; the fact that actual dragons were an actual dying species didn’t matter much. It was a “Veil” thing, according to Hunter’s research. Possessive traits and tendency to hoard spammed across different kinds of not-quite-human individuals.
So, her girlfriend-not-girlfriend collected stuff. Hoarded them, if you asked Hunter. Collecting was what Hunter did with with the mugs and the special little pens. She was protective over them, even more of the items that took her months or years to find them.
Hunter didn’t, however, growled if someone tried to take a look at her collection without prior warnings.
The workmates knew about Mack’s collecting knives, and daggers, and she also liked track spellbooks. The woman had a growing personal library, it was quite fascinating, actually. Hunter was the only one allowed to be around any of the her hoards, she knew well that Mack had unoficially claimed her.
But then: they didn’t know about the stuffed animals. Hunter had discovered during the first time she spent the night. She went home with her after a date, Hunter had won Mack the most adorable Teddy Bear. She thought Mack would, at best, put it in the corner of her bedroom. Leave it there for a few days before tossing it at the forgotten depths of her closet. Maybe she’d even throw it away, or hand over to a child.
But Mack, still looking bright and happy, disappeared into the room Hunter always saw locked. Hunter decided to take a peak and watched Mack adding the Teddy Bear to a shelf alongside other bears, then she added a sticky note with Hunter’s name and that day’s date.
She turned and looked adorably flustered.
Hunter also saw the shelves with shiny objects. A few golden daggers and ritualistic knives, jewelry, and even simple things like a cog or two and engine parts Hunter couldn’t identify. She even had a long line of bullets in perfect shiny condition.
Really, Mack was a dragon.
Mack opened her mouth to try to explain, like she thought Hunter thought she was weird for her little hobby. Hunter hugged her, kissed her gently. Kissed her so she didn’t already spill the I love you that Hunter had been holding back for months.
Hunter decided she’d help with Mack’s cute hoarding thing from then on.
