Raine looks out the window, kicking her feet idly as Maple sits nearby her.
Maple is humming, her face an image of perfect bliss- eyes closed, smile soft, not a care in the world. Raine doesn't even need to look at her- her reflection shows it, just as clearly as it shows Raine's own face- her fawn hair, her hazy blue eyes, and the tears that threaten to spill on her cheeks. Even the bow tying her hair back looks downcast.
The two are almost like a clear sunny day and a rainy one- and Raine snorts at the irony.
She's not sure why- a noise? A sixth sense?- but Raine's eyes widen, her gaze traveling upwards their reflections until it meets the monster gazing down at them hungrily. With a gasp, she shoves Maple out of the way. "Run! Run as fast as you can!" She yells out, the loudest she's ever said anything, and moves to take the hit for her.
It happens in a flash. An umbrella appears in her hand and glows brightly, and within seconds a light flows from it and over Raine's body, covering her bulky sweater and skirt. When it fades, she's wearing a dark blue poncho that looks like an open umbrella and her skirt's become as white and fluffy as a cloud. Her new umbrella is the same hazy blue as her eyes, and instinctively she swings. "TAKE THIS!" She yells, light flaring in her body.
The blow strikes- the monster collapses to the ground, and Raine immediately turns around and runs towards where she shoved Maple to- catching a glimpse of white hair on her reflection as she does so.

If I live to be a weathervane.
Always pointing off, away, to lead you 'long the flyway
"Hey!" A young girl's voice calls out- a middle schooler? "Hey! Come here!"
"Hello?" Raine asks, voice shaking. She's in that same outfit she was again, umbrella in her hand. She pushes against an invisible wall and floats towards the voice. "Who's there?!"
At once, a young girl with light grey hair pops out of a mirror. "There you are!" She calls out, reaching out for Raine. "There you are..." She sheds a tear. "True Heir!"
"True Heir- I- I'm?!" Raine stammers. "No, you have to be mistaken?!"
"Huh!? No I'm not!" She floats towards Raine, smiling. "You're the True Heir! And you're going to save the world!"
Turned to face this side of you
Raine breathes in, breathes out. She reaches out her hands and thinks of Maple. If she really is the True Heir, then...
Would it be enough for me to lead your way?

Raine looks at Maple's maple brown eyes, the two gorgeous pools matching her long hair, with such longing it stings at her heart. Maple herself is smiling that same tiny smile she does.
Come what may, Raine thinks, I'll cling to this.

Didn't you see the news today?
I heard they said it looked like rain
Raine- now Weathergirl, the Champion of Mirrors- fights a Nightmare in the rain. Out of the corner of her eye, she catches a glimpse of Maple, and a tear sheds from her eye.
All the words I left unsaid that day
Stained the sidewalk drop by drop with gray, oh
Another rainy day. Raine's umbrella- her transformation object and weapon in one- comes with the neat bonus of opening wide enough for both her and Maple.
Rain or shine, I'm by your side
So why won't you look my way?
Raine turns to look at Maple, who's off looking away from her and at something else again. Her grip tightens and a tear sheds.
She doesn't say anything.
The weather forecast's calling for another cloudy day

The Queen of Mirrors looks right at her from a mirror, and Raine breathes in, breathes out, and swallows.
"Will Maple notice my feelings?" Raine asks. "Will she love me back? Will she marry me? Will we be together forever?"
The vision the Queen shows her is everything less than reassuring- rosy-tinted hues fade into a scene between Maple and a boy with short black hair, holding hands. White hot anger fills Raine as the duo kiss, her body shaking. A hot tear sheds from her eye, and Raine breathes in to yell-
A pained "Why?" Is all that comes out. "Why didn't she notice me!? Isn't it obvious? Shouldn't she have realized how much I like her?!" Tears spill from Raine as she blubbers. "Why didn't she- Why didn't she- Am I not that-" She chokes, and the world cracks and breaks underneath her-
She falls.
She can summon a cloud in this moment to catch her fall, maybe use it to help find a way upwards.
But her eyes are too full of tears and her voice is shaking as she cries out more. "Don't you know!? Don't you know how much I like you, Maple!? Why don't- Why didn't you look my way!? Why didn't you look my way!? Why did you... Why did you..."
Her fall slows until she lands gracefully inside a cage, and the top closes shut with a click.
Raine snaps out of her pity and realizes- she runs to the nearest wall of the cage and grips the bars, but they're too strong to break- not even her umbrella can snap them open.
She pauses and looks around. She's in the park, floating, and walking right into view are...
... Maple and that boy. Raine growls, white hot tears flowing right out of her eyes yet again. Why? Why him? Why not her? Didn't Maple notice?
I could live to be a hurricane
Every cruel and irrational part of her wants to rip him apart, limb to limb. But the True Heir is perfect, so she can't.
Turn into a tempest, violent, silent in the eye
All whirling, gusting, wuthering
Raine is perfect, so how come Maple chose him?
Could it be enough to change the way you use my name?
They've been friends since childhood- Raine's been nursing this crush since kindergarten- so why did he get to-
I stay for all that aches.

"What are you doin' up there, mate?" That annoying girl with a cowboy hat and a large jacket asks, looking up at Raine's prison- at the cage that resembles a dog crate that someone just... put up in the air and somehow made immune to gravity with magic. "Don't tell me you're the Prisoner of this Nightscape, mate."
Raine doesn't respond, just grits her teeth. Maple and the boy circle around her cage for what has to be the hundredth time that afternoon since she started counting them, and she glares at them with a look that could kill thousands.
"Oh, mate, you really are the Prisoner of this fuckin' Nightscape, huh?" The girl asks. "Name's the Yeehaw Wrangler by the way. I wrangle yeehaws- and by that, I mean I steal shit, nosy around in unfortunate fucker's business- like yours- and also just pull random shit outta my pockets." She snorts. "Anyways- how'd a Princess of Mirrors end up in a Nightscape all about their fuckin' crush goin' out with someone else? Aren't you lot all hotshots all about how you're the True Heir and therefore your feelings matter the most 'nd that's why you gotta-" She stops. "You went too strong, didn't ya? Went all 'I'm the most important person around and that's why we gotta get to folickin' like bunny rabbits two bloody days ago', didn't ya?"
"No!" Raine stammers. "No, it's not like that! I..." She sighs. "I liked her since kindergarten, and... she never..."
"... You didn't confess to her?" The Yeehaw Wrangler asks.
"I- I- No, I thought she'd-"
"Look, I know how Maple's like." The Wrangler sighs. "That ditzy little idiot can't fuckin' figure out shit unless you straight-up tell her- and even then, she's looking at random trees n shit, and you'll probably have to repeat yourself several times." She turns to look at Maple and that boy holding hands and looking at each other. "That amount of attention being given to a someone and not a somethin' makes no bloody sense comin' from her. Did you get so gaga over her you didn't even realize she was a little stupid, or?"
Raine sputters. "I- Well-"
Every time Maple looked away from her- didn't acknowledge her- while they were walking, sitting together. Every moment that Maple didn't notice- every single moment, all of them-
... They weren't unique to her, Maple was just... ditzy. Of course. Raine always helped Maple with her homework, after all.
"Now, do I have to tell you some other shit, or can I dig in my little pocket for a lockpick and see if that'd break the stupid little lock on that dog crate someone left up there for you to end up in?" The Wrangler says, stuffing her hand in one of her large pockets. "Lockpick, lockpick, come on, lockpick." She mutters as she digs in her pocket.
"... Yeehaw Wrangler..." Raine says. "... I thoug-"
"What? That since you're the oh-so-special True Heir that she'd see your bloody feelin's emitting from you like fuckin' gamma radiation? Even if she weren't dumb as rocks, you shouldn't expect people to fuckin' read your mind like that instead of just tellin' them your feelin's." The Wrangler pulls out a lockpick from her pockets and grins. "Trust me, I tell everyone I know my feelin's and it's done me a lot better than your way's done you. Now, let's go- you have a love confession to make, unless you wanna end up in another fuckin' cage."

"Maple..." Raine, now detransformed, says. The Wrangler watches her from above, hidden from sight. "... I'm... I..." She breathes in, breathes out- "I'M IN LOVE WITH YOU!" She yells out, even louder than that day when she told Maple to run, run, run-
"Hm?" Maple turns around to face her. "You're in love with me?"
"Yes!" Raine yells. "I've been in love with you since kindergarten!"
"I never noticed!" Maple says with a smile, and Raine flinches.
"I know..." Raine sighs. "... Do you like me back?"
Colored as a sky entirely filled with clouds, I might be
Everything that I can be
"... Hmm... I'm not really sure?" Maple puts a finger to her chin. "But we can go on a date if you want- I went a date this morning! By the way, where were you?""
"I..." Raine looks to the side. "... I think I want to wait. Until you're sure if you... like me, or not..." She mumbles.
"Oh, ok!" Maple smiles, and turns back towards the trees. "The trees look happy today, don't they? They were sad about you this morning, I think..." She says, walking off, and Raine takes a moment out of pure shock and surprise, before running after her.
If it’s not enough, I trust the sky will open up
Someday, someday, someday
