While most assume sealomimi are a non-magical species, the truth is most systems classify them as 'semi-magical' due to the presence of pearlscence in their bones, orbs, and occasional orbs. Most sealomimi themselves do not realize it, but the standard sealomimi- while not as magical as a witch-crafted familiar- has magic flowing around their bodies- and therefore many adverse effects due to antimagic (such as feeling cold or ending up more wet than usual from swimming) are commonly sources of confusion.
Due to being semi-magical, sealomimi are capable of 'feeling' magic from a magic sense using the pearlscence in their bones. When a large outpour of magic happens- like say, a magical girl's ultimate attack- any nearby sealomimi will feel it in their bones- some may also report feeling it in their orbs or horns, or other crystalized parts if they are part of a certain rare group of sealomimi.
Magic sense can be honed and trained. Many alchemists, mages, and other sealomimi who use and/or handle magic regularly have a higher magic sense than any sealomimi who doesn't.
As well, any sealomimi can 'focus' their magic sense, as if focusing your hearing- but I will note that if the magic equivalent of a loud noise happens at the same time a sealomimi is focusing, that will startle them just as it would startle the average person.
