"... Let me help you." The Mender says, looking at the wounded Seeker. "Let me help you, because otherwise, you'll die here. You know that, don't you?" She bends down and reaches in her pockets for a flask of water.

"... I'm the True Heir." The Seeker says. "I..." She looks over herself- her injuries, the blood staining the floor. It's obvious, is it not? This stranger was sent by prophecy to prevent her death. If she refused her help... "... Go ahead."

The water flowing on the wounds makes the pain fade quickly, and within seconds the Seeker is good as new.

"Let me help you." They call her the Water's Saint- say that her flask is filled with holy water that can cure your every injury.

Selena, the Seeker, thinks she was sent for her, specifically- an agent of the prophecy foretelling that she would save the world. "Sure." She offers up her injuries- the marks across her chest and arm- and watches as the water cleanses them away. She smiles.

A fox pops up from behind the Saint. "... You look like if Sherlock Holmes wanted to wear a massive neon sign proclaiming just who he is." He snorts. "But in grayscale."

Selena gasps. "How dare- I'm the one who'll bring the Fearless Kingdoms back!" She snaps. "I'll find a way to get rid of the Darkness once and for all!"

"Have they granted you a title yet?" The Saint asks. "Or should we?" She smiles.

"A title?" Selena asked. "I'm the True Heir. I-"

"There have been over 50 True Heirs." The fox spat. "Pick something else. Something more original."

Selena chokes. "What?! All of those True Heirs-"

"Are posers and pretenders, yadda yadda..." The fox sighs. "Look, if my conscience wouldn't tell me 'Hey, dipshit, you left a vulnerable person to die, or worse, enthrone', I'd leave you to do your 'True Heir' duties in peace until you do either of those things, but-"

"Stop it." The Saint says, gripping the fox's neck tightly. "You'll scare her off."

It's too late. Selena doesn't want to hear anymore. She kicks the fox straight in the face and runs off, scaling the walls.

"Let me help you!" The Saint yells. "Let me take you to the Dreamlands! We can visit all the Queens!"

"I don't need another Queen!" Selena yells. "I'm the True Heir! Why... why do you feel the need to deny my destiny? Because that fox told you to?"

"...Because I love you." The Saint says.

"Because you..." Selena flusters. "Well, then- that just means that you shouldn't be trying to deny my destiny! You should be a part of it!" She yells, taking the Saint by the hands. "You should let me lead and you follow!" She moves to dance. "I'll take you as my lover! We can get married together!"

"You're not leader material- you rush in and get hurt because you think you can't die." The Saint says, moving in step with Selena. "I can't date someone who thinks of themselves so highly and isn't even aware of the ways people could get hurt due to them." She lets Selena twirl her as she speaks. "We're both only in high school- it's too soon for us to get married."

"It's prophesied- I can't die and I won't!" Selena smiles a wide smile and dips with the Saint, giving her a solid kiss on the lips. "I think of myself so highly because it's true- otherwise, the Queen of Mirrors would have approached someone else!" She spins around, hugging the Saint tightly to her chest. Her Light is shining brightly in her heart as she twirls. "Even if we're both in high school- we can still get married! You may think it's too soon but I don't!" She gives the Saint a kiss on the cheek as she lets go, causing the Saint to spin and crash into a corner.

"..." The Saint has no response, just looks up at Selena, before moving to stand up. She pulls out her flask. "Drink this."

"... Why?" Selena laughs. "There's nothing wrong with me! You'll see! You'll see it!" She yells, turning to run off. The Light inside her quickens her feet, and she dashes from wall to wall, corner to corner-

"I can't leave you alone while you're like this!" The Saint says, dashing behind her, the exact same type of magic guiding her steps. "You might get hurt! You might even die!"

"I CAN'T DIE, SAINT!" Selena yells, turning to face her. "The world won't let my death happen! I can't die! I'm the True Heir! Don't you understand that!? No matter what happens- my success is inevitable! I! Can't! Die!"

The Saint pauses, and that pause is all the time Selena needs to run off far, far away.

"No! No! You should have let me help you! Please, let me help you!" The Saint yells, running towards the 'True Heir'- no- no. That's Selena, from school. Her body is all cut up, blood staining the floor below her. There is an expression of shock on her corpse's face. With shaking hands, the Saint grabs her water flask and starts to pour. "Please, please... Get up!" She yells. "Please- I just want you to get up... to come back to me..." She says. Her Light flares inside of her as she focuses her magic into the water flowing upon her crush's wounds.

It was true. Something about Selena was... appealing to the Saint. Maybe it was the fact that her adventures were about finding things- discovering what's been hidden, knowing what's been unknown. Maybe it was the fact that she was stubborn. Or maybe it was the fact that, in another life... they could have been friends? Maybe it was the fact that the Saint sat right across from her in class everyday, that she was always so confident and always so sweet.

... Regardless- The Saint wants Selena to live. And... she does. The water washes away her wounds, washes away the blood on her clothes and the blood on the ground. But... there's something wrong.

Her eyes open, her face goes from shock to blankness. There's nothing left in there.

"Hey!" Kitsune, her loyal Shikigami, yells. "This girl's inner Light is all sparked out. You need to do something- you need to fix it!" He runs up to the duo. "You need to tell her not to give up or something!"

"Selena!" The Saint yells, crying. "Selena, you..." She sniffles. "Selena, what did you say about not being able to die!? You need me! You need the other Courts! You're not the True Heir! If you were the True Heir, this wouldn't happen to you!" She cups Selena's face. "Why didn't you listen to me!? Please, listen to me now! You still have a chance!"

"... This world is doomed..." Selena says, her face blank. "...The Darkness... it speaks to me."

"Don't listen to it!" The Saint yells, pressing Selena's cheeks inward. "You- you don't need to-"

Selena glares. "...I loved you, too... if you had just... agreed..." She smiles. "Then... then..."

The world shrouds in Darkness.

"I'm getting out of here!" Kitsune tugs on the Saint's skirt. "AND SO SHOULD YOU! Unless you wanna die!"

The Saint doesn't say anything, just looks at Selena's eyes, focuses on the faint tears at the ends of her cheeks.

"...Then this wouldn't have to happen..." Selena chokes out. "This wouldn't have to happen..."

"FOLLOW ME!" Kitsune yells, running off. The Saint... doesn't.

"This wouldn't have to happen to you!" Selena yells, and the world falls beneath them.

Later, much later, another Princess of Diamonds will find the Saint's corpse- her heart torn out of her chest, blood soaking the ground below her, a stream of water flowing from above.

No matter how much water flows, the corpse does not rise, the wound does not heal, and the blood does not wash away. She stays, perfectly dead, her soul far off where no Mender can reach.

It is that day when there starts a chance for Selena to find peace.

Yikes, bad things happened. Poor Saint. I hope Selena gets her shit together.
