Author: Geena
Colors: Alice Blue 11. if you'll believe in me, I'll believe in you
Styles and Supplies: Seed beds
Rating: G
Word Count: 344
Story: Polyfaceted (Index~Timeline); the title of this story is Falling.
Summary: Lena is falling in love.
Notes: This is canon and takes place in late 2023. Lena is Johnny's oldest adopted daughter, while Karen is a Connecticut resident.
***
She is beautiful.
Lena isn’t sure what it is about Karen that draws her toward the girl-- maybe she recognizes something of herself in those haunting eyes, or maybe it’s something like fate-- but drawn she is. She grows obsessed with that half-deprecating smile, the soft skin and softer touch, the way she tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear with utter grace.
She finds excuses to talk to Karen, to be around her. To bask in her. She doesn’t know why a girl like this would bother with a fuck-up like her, but it leaves her breathless and jittery, anxious in an unbearably sweet way.
After spending an afternoon at her house, Lena’s head in Karen’s lap while Karen runs her fingers over her scalp, each taking turns guiding the conversation, she asks, “What is it, love?”
Lena’s eyes fly open. “What is what?”
“You seem... distant.” Karen is struggling to maintain a neutral expression, the twitching lines around her mouth speaking volumes. “Is something wrong? Did I do something--”
“No!” Lena jerks up, swinging around on the couch to face her. Taking Karen’s hands in her own, she vehemently insists, “No. Everything’s wonderful.”
She looks away. “But there’s something, isn’t there? I can tell there is, even if I don’t know what. I can just tell.”
Lena bites her lip. “Yes, there is.”
“Then, please, tell me,” Karen pleads. “Whatever it is, I don’t care, just tell me--”
“I love you.” Silence hangs between them, Karen’s mouth dropping open in a stunned little ‘o’, her eyes widening visibly. As something inside her begins to crack, Lena manages, “It’s okay if you don’t-- I’m sorry, that was inappropriate, I shouldn’t have--”
Karen’s mouth crushes against her own, muffling Lena’s apology. When they break away, Karen gently grips her chin, gaze unyielding. “Thank god. I’ve been in love with you for a month.”
It is the best moment of Lena’s life.
