In the Shima islands, Nijinu religion (officially nameless, but often referred to as niji-ism) is heavily practiced. In Yukishima, the time of the year where it’s always nighttime is considered the holiest time of the year, while the opposite time is considered unlucky. Many nijinu wait until the long night to have children so that their kids are blessed by the moon and the heaven spirinu (often referred to as angels in other languages.).
Outside the Shima islands, nijinu faith is a lot more varied. Many nijunu outside of the islands live secular lives, or follow the religions of those nearby, such as their human neighbors, roommates, or fellow nijinu.
Other nijinu think of/experience niji-ism differently from the Shima islands. Some fear the dreagonu and spirinu like one would fear God. A feeling of both fear and respect. They often keep far away from those two [beings]. (Not that dreagonu are anywhere outside of the Shima islands… or are they? (hmmmmm))

Many nijinu wait until the long night to have children

Like conceiving them or having them? Because either idea is fascinating to me.
