Ruth wakes to find David gone.
It's a few hours before she realizes that it's not something simple, or mundane. That it's like last time. That he's gone.
Knowing what happened, knowing that this is something that a monster did to him, and that, with any luck, he'll be back in a few years, burning with guilt and grief she barely understands...
She's not sure if it actually makes it easier for her to bear.
But she does know that, underneath the false memories, he loves her. And their son. That what they had was more than what he'd been given as a shaky foundation, when they first met all those years ago.
She has to believe in that. In them. In their family.
And when he comes back to himself, back home to them, they'll find a way to rebuild. Just like this time. They'd find each other again, and again, and again, and build each other up in the life they have in between his stolen time.
It may not be enough, but he is. For as long as she has him to hold.
