Selmid didn't remember much about his first parents. Something vague and pleasant, but either a long time ago or locked behind something awful he didn't want to see.

He didn't remember how he lost them.

What he did know was how he'd found his second parents, and his brothers. How his new father had found him and coaxed him out of the nightmare he'd witnessed; how his new mother had been so patient with him while he learned that all of this was real.

He did miss his first parents, in a kind of abstract way. And he was pretty sure they'd loved him. But he knew what he had now was real, and he wouldn't trade it for a pair of half-remembered ghosts.

This is intriguing, and I like the way you've balanced out the sort of loss and the gain here.

This poor sweet kid. I'm glad he has his new family now.
