Ecru 7: I Know What I Want
Author: Kat
Title: I Know What I Want
Story: In the Heart
Colors: Ecru 7 (examine)
Supplies and Materials: Graffiti (Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl, Chappell Roan), calendar page (Serendipity Day), brush (impugn), novelty beads (I'll drink to that)
Word Count: 260
Rating: PG-13 for swearing.
Summary: How Joy met Lindy.
Warning: none.
Notes:
The woman threw herself on the stool beside Joy and slapped a palm down on the bar. “Whiskey, neat,” she said, and added, mostly under her breath, “It’ll be a cold day in hell before I date another man.”
Something caught in Joy. She pushed herself around to face the woman. “Intriguing words,” she said. “Can I ask?”
“Bastard wheedles a date out of me and stands me up,” the woman said. Her shoulders were so straight, they must be tense and aching. Joy imagined running her tongue over him. “Doesn’t even have the courtesy to call. Fuck men.”
There were several things Joy could have said to that. She could, for example, have pointed out that the man in question was only one man, though clearly a disappointing one. She could have wondered aloud what was keeping him- traffic, a car accident, sudden emergencies, broken phone even. She could have said that this seemed like a drastic choice, given all that.
But the woman, throwing back her whiskey, was beautiful, with perfectly styled black hair and sharp hazel eyes. She wore a boxy business suit that only hinted at the gorgeousness beneath, but Joy had an active imagination. She could already feel herself going loose and liquid at the thought of peeling that black jacket from the woman’s shoulders.
“That sucks,” she purred, shifting closer. “Can I suggest an alternative?”
The woman paused in setting her glass back down and turned to look at Joy, those hot hazel eyes like hands on Joy’s skin. “Well,” she said. “I’m listening.”
