Angels have roles, and purposes. This is how the Holy One created them.

Angels run on belief, on faith. This is also how the Holy One created them.

Lightbringer is no exception.

Lightbringer's role is something of a mystery--standing next to Michaela the soldier, Raphael the healer, Gabriel the messenger, and Raziel the architect, the last archangel is harder to define--but no one can doubt that Lightbringer has purpose.

And if Lightbringer's faith in the Holy One may have been shaken, well. Belief in the war, the cause, the rightness of it all is more than enough to press on.

In those days, at the outset of the first war that destroyed so much more than it ever saved, Lightbringer believed in victory, and that it would all be worth it in the end.

When Lux rises millennia later, she is less certain of victory; more conscious of the cost; but just as steady on her course.

Because angels have roles, and purposes; and angels are built on faith; and even after all she's lost, Lux still believes.

Oh, wow, I think this is a really cool look at the difference between faith and belief, especially in a purpose. Clever.
