Don't let it go to waste
‘Cause, baby, just a taste
Would be sweeter, sweeter, sweeter
Than a Georgia peach
Oh, babe, you make me feel like it's a
Hot summer night

—Hot Summer Night; Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

Dan has always been a fan of kissing, in all its versatility; he enjoys the way one act can convey so many different emotions, from gentleness and concern to love—whether familial or romantic—to want and pure desire.

These kisses are definitely of the last variety, firm and passionate, sending heat coursing through his body, warming him from the inside out. Torey is warm and solid against him, leg between his thighs as he pushes him back against the couch, and Dan can feel his erection through his slacks, hot and hard. He can’t get enough of him, and he shifts, his own erection rubbing against Torey’s leg, and when Torey pulls away, just far enough to get a good look at him, the heat in his eyes puts even the heat from his kisses to shame.

Dan feels his mouth go dry. He licks his lips.

“I know I offered you wine,” he says, eyes dark with desire, radiating pure energy, “but how would you feel about skipping it and moving this to the bedroom?”

Dan laughs, a low sound, deep in his throat, and grins. “Forget the wine,” he says, leaning in to steal another scorching kiss.

I don't want to rush your love
But I can never get enough
I'm sitting outside your door
I’ll give you everything you need
Sunshine, the world, and all your dreams
So what are we waiting for

—Slow; Andy Grammer

“So I was thinking I’d make you dinner tomorrow night,” Torey says, leaning in. Dan is dressed casually, jeans and a fitted sweater over a button-down shirt, and he looks damn good.

Dan starts to answer when another voice cuts in. “Tore!” Johnny calls. “Stop fuckin’ flirtin’ an’ bring the fuckin’ beers over!”

Torey rolls his eyes and flips him off, not even glancing back, and Dan grins. He likes seeing that grin, he’s decided. He thinks he’d like to see it more often.

“As I was about to say,” Dan says, looking amused, “I think that sounds good.”

“Great. I’ll stop by when the bar closes.”

“Ridiculously late dinners—just one of the disadvantages of dating a bartender,” Dan says dryly.

Torey only smiles sincerely. “I don’t mind,” he says. “And so far I haven’t noticed any other disadvantages.”

“I’m glad about that,” Dan replies, returning the smile. “And just wait. The others will manifest soon enough.”

“I doubt it,” he says, then smirks. “Guess we’ll just have to keep going, see who’s right.”

“Don’ mind me, jus’ gettin’ my beer,” Johnny interrupts suddenly. “Go back ta starin’ dreamily at each other.”

Torey flips him off again. Dan smiles.

Seems like there's always someone who disapproves
They'll judge it like they know about me and you
And the verdict comes from those with nothing else to do
The jury's out, my choice is you

—Ours; Taylor Swift

Dan thinks he’s ready.

It’s not that he’s not nervous—he is. After all, from everything he’s heard, Mrs. Corlioni is a formidable woman. But Dan has always found that worry multiplies far too quickly if given half a chance, and it’s not an easy trap to escape from. He prefers to let it do its job, to center him, but not to let it bog him down.

“Here goes nothing,” Torey says, giving him an encouraging smile. They enter his mother’s expansive home, and he calls, “Ma? We’re here.”

A short woman bustles into the foyer. She’s roughly a foot shorter than Torey, yet Dan can’t help but feel a certain presence that makes up for any lack of physical height. “Good. You’re early—you can help with dinner,” she says to Torey, then looks at Dan.

He’s definitely being sized up. “Mrs. Corlioni, it’s a pleasure to meet you,” he says. “I’m Dan.”

“You own a bar?” she asks.

“I do.”

“What kind of wines do you stock?”

He tells her, mentioning his favorites, and when he’s done, she nods, almost imperceptibly. “You’ll like the wine we’re having with dinner tonight.”

Torey shoots him a small, triumphant smile.

These days everybody's chasin' money
But I say you got nothin' if you ain't happy
Everything I own's in a suitcase in my hand
I've learned how to live by livin' right where I land

—Every Day’s a Holiday; The JaneDear Girls

Torey grins as he watches Dan come down from his orgasm, eyes closed, breathing heavily, and he looks so incredible he can’t help but reach over and run a hand down his chest.

Dan’s eyes flick open and he leans into the touch, smiling contentedly. Torey shifts closer and kisses him, draping an arm around his waist. “I love you,” he says quietly, thumb absently tracing nonsense patterns along his hip.

“Mmm, I love you too,” Dan replies. “Has anyone ever told you you’re good at that?”

Torey laughs. “It’s been mentioned.”

“Good.” Dan smiles, stretching, and kisses him again.

“You should move in,” Torey says then, almost without thinking. He’s glad he said it, though—he means it.

Dan only looks mildly surprised, then thoughtful. “It has been a little over six months,” he agrees, nodding.

He grins. “Is that a yes?”

“That’s definitely a yes,” Dan confirms, smiling.

Torey presses him back against the bed and kisses him deeply.

Dan’s fingers comb through his hair, and when they break apart, he gives him a wry smile. “If you want to celebrate this properly, you’ll have to give me a few more minutes.”

Torey chuckles. “I can do that.”

We're in it, together, for better or worse
If you wanna fly, leave this world with me
We'll touch the sky, let's defy this gravity
Hold on to me tight, when it all falls down

—Forever Unstoppable; Hot Chelle Rae

Their surrogate looks tired, and Dan knows he should go see how she’s doing, but for the life of him he can’t stop looking at the tiny bundle in his arms, gorgeous and pink and perfect.

Torey grins widely when he walks back into the room, clearly taking in the sight, and he joins them, brushing a finger against Caterina’s cheek. She attempts to focus on him. “She’s beautiful,” he says.

“She is,” Dan agrees. “She’s perfect. Want to hold her?”

Torey’s grin only widens, threatening to split his face in two. “Of course.”

Caterina doesn’t seem to mind being switched, apparently content to take in her entirely new environment and all the wonders it has to offer. Dan drops a kiss on her forehead, the sight of Torey holding her enough to make him break into his own impossibly wide grin, and he moves to check on Tara.

“I’m fine,” she says with a soft laugh, after he asks. “And I know I’m not the one you want to be focusing on right now.”

He smiles gratefully at her and returns to Torey and their baby.

Their baby. He shakes his head.

That thought is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

I loooooove this fic. To think, it's partly thanks to that first song coming on!

I love Johnny, of course, because he would. Obligation of being the little brother. I love Dan's appropriate nerves about meeting Martina. And I really, really love the bb scene, but I always do, lol.

Great job!

The progression of their relationship makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. My favorite section was meeting Mrs. Corlioni--Dan's nervousness and her undemonstrative acceptance of him. Nicely done.

Awwwwwwww FOREVER. Just... little steps, having sex, meeting Martina, moving in, BABY, all of them really lovely. Good job.

(and yaaaay, return of the song meme! I'll have to actually do one this time around.)

I love this fic also! I think the scene with Martina is my favorite. What kind of wine indeed.

Plus, it's very satisfying to see Dan get EXTRA Corlioni'd in such a smexy way.
