*

The sunset is pink and orange over the expanse of the sea. Reuben fixes his eyes on that horizon, earplugs shutting out the noise behind him in the restaurant. Red wine sits sour on his tongue, his body sated enough for melancholy.

His phone buzzes; against his better judgment, he digs it out.

You need to come home

Reuben frowns, thumbs a reply:

Why?

Silence stretches. Unwilling to wait any longer, Reuben swipes down and turns on Do Not Disturb.

The sun keeps sinking. It's easier, Reuben thinks, to be a place than a person.

He almost writes that down.

Reuben is a mood, clearly. This is great!

He should've written it down, it was good! Also, valid of him to ignore home. I'm not sure what's going on but it feels like he has a good reason not to go.
