Title: Droplets
Word Count: 587

Summary: Zero creates some new memories in the rain.
Warnings: mentions of violence, abuse, and forced servitude
Notes: I finally finished this even though it wasn't that long. It takes a lot for Zero to talk about his past. I will reveal later on, but Zero was captured during the war and kept prisoner for a group of cat demons. Zero is a Dog Demon so they blamed him for many things. I'll reveal his real name and more about him later. Now he's with Adam and lives with him and his family. Enjoy!
Zero stared out the window at the rain falling gently against the windowpanes. He forgot the way rain looked. He wondered if it felt the same. Joseph didn’t let him out often and it was out of the question for Nicole. He missed the rain even it soaked his tail he wanted to feel it. Then again, there were times he could be out in the rain. Zero closed his eyes at the memory of the lashes and burns against his legs. Nicole liked to punish him in the rain.
“Zero? Are you okay?”
Zero looked up at Adam who stared back in concern. He looked down at the screwdriver he gripped in his hand and the way his ears and tail stood up. He calmed down and nodded. “I’m fine. I just noticed the rain outside, that’s all.”
“Okay, how are the repairs going?” Adam walked over and took a seat next to him. He reached over and gently rubbed his ear.
Zero hummed in appreciation as he gestured to the broken computer around him. “Pretty good. I replaced the motherboard and repaired the circuits. All I have to do is fix the CD drive and I’m finished. Did you translate that letter, yet?”
“It took some time, but I did it. I have Gary’s letter next, but I’m not ready to translate a novel yet.”
Zero chuckled and finished with the last screw. He placed the screwdriver down and turned back to the window.
Adam noticed and stopped scratching is ear. He reached for his hand and linked their fingers together. “What’s wrong?”
“I was wondering if we could go outside.” Zero moved his ear and whined softly in the back of his throat.
Adam grinned and used his other hand to scratch his ear again. “In the rain?”
“Yeah,”
“Sure,”
“Really?” Zero blinked in surprise.
Adam nodded and tugged on his hand. “Yeah, let’s go.”
Zero grinned and stood up from his chair. He squeezed Adam’s hand on their way downstairs. Adam squeezed back. They stopped in front of the door as Adam turned to Zero.
“Ready?”
“Yeah,”
Adam pushed the door open as the breeze traveled through their hair. They stood in the doorway, watching the rainfall. Zero felt the fear from before start to creep over him. He relaxed when Adam squeezed his hand again.
I can do this. Joseph and Nicole isn’t here and Adam won’t hurt me. Zero took a breath and walked outside.
He let it out as he walked down the pathway. His ears and tail twitched from the water as held out a hand to collect a few drops.
Zero stiffened when he felt Adam behind him. He expected an insult or a hit, but warm arms circled his waist instead. Zero relaxed in the hold and leaned against Adam.
Adam kissed his ear. “How do you feel? You okay?”
“I feel great. I forgot the rain could be so soothing.” Zero moved his ears and wagged his tail.
Adam laughed when Zero’s tail tickled his legs. “We can be out here as long as you want.”
“Doesn’t the rain bother you?”
“Nope, the thing that bothers us is if we can’t make heat. I can get warm out here.”
“Okay,” Zero leaned forward and whispered against his lips. “Thank you,”
“Anytime,” Adam whispered back as he connected the small gap between them.
Zero turned in Adam’s arms and deepened the kiss. Adam pulled him close tightening the hold around his waist.
The rain never felt better.
