Blue Caravan #3, Cloudy Gray #7: Bit Part (Lin Moniao Series)

Name: Bit Part
Story: Lin Moniao Series (AO3 link)
Colors: Blue Caravan #3: Something keeps you faithful when all else in you turns and runs, Cloudy Gray #7: accompany
Supplies and Styles: modeling clay ("prop"); postcard, mosaic
Word Count: 137
Rating: general
Warnings: n/a
Also contains: Societal pressure to conform, mention of pregnancy.
Summary: Shen Shanwei muses on his role as a spouse.
Note: At the moment I am assuming that mosaic is still the style to go with for fics about original characters who happen to exist in a TTRPG universe... Attempting bichromatic with these two colors!

***

Shen Shanwei was always the faithful shadow of his shijie, going by what she said and wanted and needed, subjugating his will to hers. An extra pair of fists, a biting tongue to back her bluster, a shoulder to rest her head on.

Now he is a husband married hastily on the eve of war to a bride many months pregnant with someone else's child.

They write characters like him, in popular plays, to mock them. As if Shen Shanwei did not go into this with both eyes open. He knows what he's doing. He didn't ask for anyone's opinion.

In the best future he can imagine, Shen Shanwei will stay in the shadows forever, caring for their children and their home, while Duyi shines, and grows, and learns to love herself as much as he does.

I like what I learn about Shen Shanwei from just this short piece. He's so decisive, and doesn't care how he's perceived.

Oh, that last line. This is very lovely but that last line in particular says so much.
