Summary: Leion runs into some unexpected sunshine on a gloomy day.

“Leio!”

Leion’s barely turned his head before Kettah launches herself at him. Laughing, he catches her up in a hug, before drawing back, holding onto her at arm's length, and studying her as to prove he’s not imagining things. “What are you doing here?”

“On leave,” she says, though she’s standing there proud in her blue-grey uniform edged with gold, and her black curls tied tightly back. She raises her head to meet his gaze like a challenge, but laughter lurks in all the corners of her face. “What are you doing?”

Leion glances sideways and up, towards the great Council Chamber buildings that rise up out of the clifftop not far above them. He loses the question like a stray leaf of paper. Nothing as important as this, he implies with an airy wave in the direction of Chamber Square. “Oh, you know how it is.”

Kettah hugs him again, and then falls into step with him, turning away from the busy street together, escaping through one of the cracks of the city to talk.

“I’m sure you ought to be more dignified when in uniform.”

Kettah shakes her head. “You have such odd rules in your head sometimes. You’re not the one who’s a soldier.”

They make their way along the narrow path, hand in hand, towards the viewing point ahead. He dips his head towards her as if to reassure himself she’s still there as they go. She smiles and, when they stop at the railings, leans forward easily onto them, untroubled by the sharp edge in the breeze.

She steals another look up at him; glowing with further pleasure as she says, “Don’t tell anyone else, but I’ve been promised I should be transferred to the High Guards soon - I’ll be home again for good.”

“Oh, congratulations!” says Leion, patting her shoulder. “Not that I’m surprised. I heard you were doing well.”

Kettah laughs. “Not as grand as Seah, of course. Not yet!”

“Who is?”

“Not bad, though,” she says, and grins, straightening up.

“Not so bad,” agrees Leion. He brushes her cheek with his hand - his bright little half-sister, who arrived years ago like a gift to him and to Seahra; a true thread to bind them together, the leftover parts of two fragmented families. He bends his head nearer; fondness softens his voice: “How long are you here for?”

“A whole week.”

Leion puts up a hand to hide a further smile: never only a week for Kettah.

“I hear you’ve been having plenty of excitement lately. You’ll have to tell me all about it. Did someone really try to kill the High Governor?”

“Yes. Very badly, though. And it’s led me to some interesting places and people,” he says. Looking at her, he finds himself turning it into something brighter than it had been only a few minutes before.

They stay there for a little while, looking out over the city and the sea, for as long as they can before business pulls them apart.

“Missed you, Ket,” he tells her, before he leaves her.

She leans back against the railings and watches him. “I bet you did.” Amusement dances in her eyes.

“Brat,” he says, drawing himself up, but he fails at dignity: he laughs.

Very well-written, and a cute sibling dynamic, I like it!

I love these two so much. Their dynamic is great, and I love that they're half-siblings especially for some reason?

Also this line is great: laughter lurks in all the corners of her face
