THE FIRST DAY OF CREATION

“A thousand hills, but no birds in flight/Ten thousand paths, with no person’s tracks.”

In the beginning, there was nothing but barren stone. The earth was crust, and the crust was hard, unyielding and impervious to touch. Inside, it hid a heart, but the earth did not yet reveal it, for the darkness was total, and it would be seized by it and its sound drowned out by the nothingness.

The rock hid the heart and made itself hard to the world, like a mother does.

When the darkness felt this strength deep in its being, it tried to drown the earth as well. For a month, under a sky with no stars, it rained down water over the stone to try and soften it, open it up, but the stone did not soften, and it did not open up but turned harder, more unyielding and more impervious to the onslaught of water.

What the darkness had not expected was that while the water would indeed shape the earth, it could not erode it, but instead grew it like a wild tree or a flower in the field. The strength that had lain hidden inside the earth soon began to form a bump, like a mother’s belly, then a peak, like a mother’s breast and like that, the earth reached for the sky, tearing a hole in its canvas, through which the light broke.

Thus dawned the first day of creation.

Under the warmth of the sunlight, the water evaporated that surrounded what had now revealed itself to be the Mountain Mother, leaving the earth soaked and fertile. As the Goddess had done first, the trees now sprouted out of the ground, the flowers grew from the earth. The water was only in its designated places. The darkness was only allowed to reign at night, and only under the watch of the daughters of light, the stars.

Such did the Mountain Mother order it.

Not until it was all done as she had decided, did the sacred hill in which the Mountain Mother lived finally break apart in a sea of flames to expose the heart within. This heart was the first woman, Ha-Fal which means ‘the feminine aspect’, and the Mountain Mother released her onto the earth to wander and find her way.

Thus ended the first day of creation.

Oh, I like this a lot! Very well done, and I love all the imagery in it, especially in the first two or three paragraphs, but the style's really great for this kind of thing.

Awesome. You're so good at the rhythms and sounds of religious texts.
