Halloween Orange #25
Name: shadowsong26
Story: All of This
'Verse: Feredar
Colors: Halloween Orange #25. No one gets to tell me if I've lost or if I've won.
Supplies and Materials: graffiti (Lilith Faire Day 7: Village Stage), photography, frame, brush (effulgence), novelty beads ("Don't bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself." - William Faulkner)
Word Count: 196
Rating: PG
Characters: Kes
Warnings: Oblique references to some internal Islander prejudices.
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.
Kes had everything she had ever wanted. Everything she and her sisters had dreamed about as little girls--Lif, while not wanting the same things Kes and Taz had, had still joined them in dreaming about it.
She has multiple ships answering to her, not just the command Taz had left when she’d retired and gone north to start a family with Dallu.
She, the Unthreaded middle daughter of a family line that hadn’t produced any Captains in generations, now held one of the highest ranks in her Clan.
There was a chance, even, that she might be the next Clan Head, though she didn’t want to count on it.
And all of this--all of this--she had earned. With Taz, at first, and then on her own. With her Clan and her people watching her, Kes had built almost more than she could have ever dreamed. She hadn’t lied or cheated her way into her position, she had simply been better than the rest. She had won.
Kes had everything now. And, standing on the summit, looking down at what she’d made of her life, she was proud of what she’d managed to become.

Yep! She doesn't turn up much, but she's a dancer/storyteller back at home. Air-mage, like Kes.
