Cerise #23, Amaranth #5
Name: shadowsong26
Story: Fame and Fortune
'Verse: Feredar
Colors: Cerise #23. Someone else got pulled over, Amaranth #5. Stars
Supplies and Materials: graffiti (Lilith Faire Day 5: Main Stage), photography, eraser (Urban Fantasy AU), stain, seed beads
Word Count: 286
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Sola
Warnings: Don't think so, nope.
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always. Last Cerise!
A combination of luck, privilege, talent, and being beautiful by almost every standard (petite blondes rarely went out of fashion) had landed Sola a successful acting career. Mostly in TV, with a couple of movies as well. She had fame and fortune, and all the perks that came with it.
All the downsides, too.
She didn't have the paranoia that some of her peers did, about paparazzi and tabloids. Her family's business had given her a better idea of what to expect than most wide-eyed ingenues. She'd known going in that she'd need a thick skin if she was going to survive. And she'd known going in that, nine times out of ten, the best response was either a dignified silence or self-deprecating humor. Almost never rising to the bait and arguing with the gossip magazines.
It also helped, of course, that she had very little shame.
That didn't mean she wasn't annoyed or frustrated or hurt sometimes, by what they said about her. Wondering what surgeon had provided her admittedly spectacular breasts (God, thank you; she'd had other work done, but not there). Rumors linking her, with varying levels of truth, to this or that other celebrity. The weeks and weeks spent stretching out the drama of the messy breakup after an ill-advised relationship with a costar when she was nineteen.
She read the magazines, because she liked knowing what people were saying about her, whether or not she decided to respond. And she enjoyed making fun of the more off-the-wall rumors with her husband.
And because, sometimes, like the month-long saga of her cheating asshole ex's DUI accompanied by a possibly-terminal case of foot-in-mouth disease, it gave her just a little bit of satisfaction.
