Sienna #7, Lotus #13, Daffodil #3
Story: Learning to Rule
'Verse: Feredar
Colors: Sienna #7. scholars, Lotus #13. Mindfulness, Daffodil #3. spring forward
Supplies and Materials: canvas (940 FY), photography, charcoal, glue ("...it's now time to let go of whatever has happened and move on with your plans. Don't look back, even if it takes a few days until you're certain that the previous restrictions are really loosening up.")
Word Count: 160
Rating: G
Characters: King Sorell
Warnings: None
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.
Sorell had been King for all of three days and he was already hopelessly lost. He knew a little bit of the principles behind governing a city the size of Feredar and the territory it controlled, but he'd been the youngest of five sons. His father had given him a lot of freedom in choosing what to study, and most of what he'd picked hadn't been exactly practical.
He put the document--something about the import records of cotton for the last six months--off to one side and rubbed at his temples.
He sat there for a minute, then sighed and extracted himself from behind his desk. If staring at it and turning it upside down wasn't going to help him understand all the things he was supposed to do, then it was probably time to find his way to the palace library and learn how to run an economy.
...It was going to be a very long night.

As for the advisers...it's less that he doesn't trust them than that they were all his father's advisers, and with a few exceptions, they tend to either seriously talk down to him (because he's young and inexperienced/untrained) or expect him to know what he's doing and get impatient when they have to explain in more detail than they're used to. So it's more that they don't really trust him. So he researches on his own, while he figures out which of them he can go to for serious answers to his questions.
Whatever else you can say about Sorell, he does take his responsibilities as King (and as a husband/father, later on) very seriously.
