Warnings: Aftermath of war/major fight with a sibling

The War was over, in every way now. Treaty signed, everything set, all the work and blood of the past few years had paid off.
The Islands, like most of the world, were celebrating.
And for Kes…
She was a Captain now. Despite how badly she and Taz had left things, her sister had left her her command when she’d retired to the North with Dallu.
She had survived. The people nearest and dearest to her had survived and were able to move on with their lives.
Maybe a part of her still felt unsettled. Because she was new to Captaincy and had a lot to prove; because she didn’t know if Taz would ever forgive her; because she could see the ways this new peace might break down all too soon, even if she wasn’t any kind of expert in that sort of thing.
But for tonight…
For tonight, she gave herself permission to forget all of that. To join the party on the beach, to dance with her other sister and a few pretty partners who caught her eye, to laugh and drink and share the joy her people and their allies felt.
The War was over, in every way now. They had won.
Kes’s problems could wait until tomorrow. Tonight, she was going to celebrate.
