The first job Mariko takes after the fire is boring. But it keeps her mind and her time occupied, and it’s remote work, where every other offer in her field wanted her to be on site.

Besides, she can set her own hours and since she still has followup medical appointments to deal with, that matters a lot.

It’s not great, it’s not--even now, when she’s just coming out of the fog she’s been in for the past two years, it’s not what she wants. But she has to start somewhere, and for that, this job is just enough.
