Cerise #10, Lapis Lazuli #19
Name: shadowsong26
Story: Breaking Free
'Verse: Untitled Intrigues Story
Colors: Cerise #10. A little extra money, Lapis Lazuli #19. qualm
Supplies and Materials: graffiti (Lilith Faire Day 6: Village Stage), photography, canvas, novelty beads (Quit now, you'll never make it. If you disregard this advice, you'll be halfway there. - David Zucker)
Word Count: 173
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Neremyi
Warnings: Arranged marriage (not the fun kind)
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always. Neremyi is Enairi and Malue's mother.
Neremyi’s life was not what she would have chosen, nor was it one that made her happy.
But the idea of leaving it--of breaking free--was a child’s daydream. One she had only briefly entertained when her brother had told her her fate, and never really planned on following through.
What would be the point? Yes, it might spare her being a pawn of her brother or her husband or one or both of her sons.
But what was freedom really worth? When she was who she was, and where she was, and she could carve out her own niche, her own world, within a reality she never wanted and knew she would never love? One where she still had influence over the world. Influence she would lose if she tried to run away.
Breaking free was wishful thinking. A child’s daydream. A waste of time and effort.
Neremyi lived in the real world, and she was determined to make the most of it, rather than chasing something that could never be.

Yes and no? She builds her own sort of shadow court/identity because her husband doesn't really want much of anything to do with her, and her access to her sons is restricted when they're ten or so. She does manage to carve out her own space and once she does that--yeah, she has room to just be herself on occasion. But...yeah, not much.
