Characters: Nolani
Warnings: Aftermath of a messy breakup. (These two do get back together, as a side note, but for the time being)
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.
The worst thing about the time Nolani spent at home was the fact that she might run into Lonura.
On the one hand, it was--good. Seeing that Lonura was alive and well and even…even happy. Or content. As much as she could tell from a distance, anyway.
On the other…
She had ended other relationships, too. Not all of them amicably, though she did try. And even with the kindest ends, things were usually a little bit awkward for a while. But with Lonura…
It was hard. She’d regretted breaking it off as soon as the words had left her mouth. That last fight had been--awful. They’d both said such awful things.
And even if they hadn’t said a word to one another since then, every time their paths crossed, or almost crossed, Nolani found herself wishing things were different.
Wishing she had the courage to make the first move, to ask for her back.
But the moment would pass, and Nolani would say nothing, and Lonura would keep her mouth shut, and it would hurt for a while, until it happened again or she went back to her husband’s court where there was no chance of seeing her lover again.
It would get easier with time. Or so Nolani kept telling herself.
Maybe if she repeated it often enough, it would actually be true.

They do get back together, I promise! It takes a while for them to finally break the ice, but they get there!
