'Verse: Untitled Intrigues Story
Colors: Hills of Iowa #3. There's the weak and the strong and the many stars that guide us; we have some of them inside us.
Supplies and Materials: graffiti (Lilith Faire Day 6 Village Stage), photography, modeling clay (lethal incense), novelty beads
Word Count: 237
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Kamer
Warnings: References to possible war/assassination, complicated politics and (seemingly) unrequited love.
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.
It is Priest Ahnrel's duty to finesse the situation with Elanhe, and prevent a war.
It is Kamer's duty to protect His Excellency, from physical threats primarily but, perhaps, the political undertow of a subtle and dangerous court, as well. His Excellency is a stranger here, after all, and surely preventing a war will help keep him--and everything else Kamer...
Surely, helping the priest-ambassador fulfill his duty will only help Kamer with his own.
And it isn't contrary to that duty to admire His Excellency's intelligence or compassion, his willingness to listen and learn and correct his mistakes when he makes them--though, because he listens, and asks intelligent questions, those are blessedly rare.
It is--perhaps--not contrary to that duty to simply...admire His Excellency.
But there are lines Kamer knows he cannot cross, though it becomes more difficult each day, with each careless smile His Excellency throws.
Not that there is any meaning to it, to any of it. Kamer knows better. Anything he sees reflected there is mere wishful thinking.
Another undertow to avoid.
Because Kamer's duty is to protect His Excellency, and he knows where the boundaries are. He will not let his wishful thinking compromise him, or the man he is sworn to protect.
So, he adds another thing to his list of things to watch. Dangers to His Excellency that he must neutralize or avoid. Assassins, politics, war--and, hardest of all, Kamer's own heart.
