When Leyla heard Mariko was back on Earth, and why, she almost called.

They had split up before Mariko had left, but it had been friendly--they'd just...wanted different futures. And before that, they'd been together for six years.

On the other hand...it had been over a year. Leyla didn't know what was going through Mariko's head, or what she might want or need. Or what she herself might want or need.

So, instead, Leyla sent a card, and flowers, and good wishes, and left the phone where it was.

Mariko knew her number. Better to leave it in her hands.

Leyla's probably right, especially under these circumstances. Still, I hope Mariko reaches out. It seems like she could use a friend.

Yeah, probably. I'm... not sure if Mariko ever does reach out to her? Definitely not for a while. She kind of hermits for most of her time back on Earth, and then she moves to Mars, and then the angels come back into her life and things get Messy. But it's possible! And, yeah, she could definitely use a friend.
