After Arelie left, Farid wondered if he was happy, before he knew her.
He'd had his children, then. He still loved them desperately, and sometimes, when he was around them, he felt a spark of something like contentment. He'd had a pleasant, if not blissful, relationship with Fatimah. He certainly thought he was happy.
Then Arelie blew him away. Her laughter, her smile, the delight that bloomed in her face every time he saw her... how could he have thought it was happiness, before?
He knew now. Maybe he'd feel it again someday, even without her.
He couldn't regret Arelie.
