Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.
Nolani decided to go to college on the other side of the country. She absolutely planned to come back after, get a job in the family firm, and so on, and so forth. She knew what her life would be like, and she was looking forward to living it. When the time came.
But, before that, she wanted a chance to be free. Of her mother's ambitions, of her father's sometimes-overprotective love. A chance to go a little wild, get a little drunk, sleep with someone pretty who would never last in her life. Without worrying about disappointing anyone. She had it all worked out, how she'd balance exploring herself with keeping up with her classes. And a part of her, she was pretty sure, needed to do this. To figure out who she was with no boundaries but the ones she set for herself.
It hurt, leaving her brother and sister behind, and she missed her old friends and her old room and everything she'd known.
But when she went to a party, the first Friday after the semester started, all fishnets and high heels and winged eyeliner and bright red lipstick; and got a little buzzed on very cheap champagne and made out with a tall, leggy blonde in a slinky red dress...
She knew she'd made the right choice. And even if it wouldn't last forever, she wouldn't trade getting to experience this kind of rush, just for a little while, for anything.
