Hills of Iowa #4, Jungle Green #10
Name: shadowsong26
Story: Alone
'Verse: Feredar
Colors: Hills of Iowa #4. It wasn't worth the pain my death would cost so I was not lost or found., Jungle Green #10. Insect
Supplies and Materials: graffiti (Lillith Faire Day 2: Second Stage), photography, tapestry (Jungle Green + Novelty Beads), seed beads, novelty beads, beading wire
Word Count: 245
Rating: R
Characters: Deva
Warnings: References to war/espionage/impending genocide.
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.
Deva's work is bitter and dangerous; clandestine and often dirty; and a long, hard road to anything like victory. It's worth it, though; she wouldn't be doing it if it weren't worth it. And if it works--and she prays it will--it will save lives, most likely. Many, many lives.
She knows what her brother wants to do, when he inherits.
Most of the time, that doesn't bother her--that she's risking so much, and most likely, no one will ever know what she's done. Sometimes, that silence is even a comfort. She hasn't crossed as many lines as Aunt Rema, maybe, but she's done things she regrets, however justified they were.
She's not Sola, either; frankly, she's not sure what she would do with that kind of attention, even positive attention, burning down on her.
But she's only human, and a part of her, sometimes, wishes she had that kind of approval. That people would look at her, look at the work she's done, and tell her she's done well. She's done what is right and good and saved people, and...
Deva isn't doing this for attention. Besides, her husband knows, and more than approves; and Mama, of course, before she died. There's an entire Movement working towards these same goals, though most of them--for her safety, and theirs--don't know that the King's eldest daughter counts herself among them.
Even so, sometimes, doing her bitter, dangerous, clandestine, and often dirty work, she feels very, very alone.

It's possible I've never said it straight-out, or it's only come up in like AUs and stuff, but yeah. Of all the kids, Deva was closest to her mother, and has been following in her footsteps.

Yeah, me, too. I've always been fascinated by spies/deep-cover agents/double agents/people with Conflicting/Complicated Loyalties.
