Cool Black 6: Terrifying
Author: Kat
Title: Terrifying
Story: In the Heart
Colors: Cool black 6 (I never thought I needed help before)
Supplies and Materials: Graffiti (Lilith Faire Second Stage: Morningside, Sara Bareilles), oils (unprecedented), nubs (from the Last Leaf section), miniature, novelty beads (“I don't know how it is...but you seem to think me something wonderful, and indeed, I am not.” ― Georgette Heyer), stain (There's only one way to have a happy marriage and as soon as I learn what it is I'll get married again. - Clint Eastwood)
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG
Summary: Love is terrifying.
Warning: none.
Love is fucking terrifying.
Melanie has been in love before, that's the thing. She knows how this ends. She's heard the silences sharp as knives, the words that change everything and nothing. She knows love isn't enough. And she knows that Ben has no idea what he's asking for when he proposes.
So she doesn't answer him. And... and he doesn't walk away, he just smiles, a little sadly, and puts the ring away. When he calls her the next day, it's the same easy talk, the same happiness.
Love is terrifying. Ben is terrifying.
Melanie might be growing brave.
